Default Engine Paint

When painting engine parts, like valve covers, etc., will using 500 degree paint be adequate? Or is 1200 degree necessary? I sprayed some stuff down w/o lookin at the can, and noticed it was the lower temp. paint, wondering if it will hold up or if i should strip it down and repaint w/ higher temp paint.
