engine knocking
Today I power washed my engine and bay and when I started the car i noticed the engine was knocking.
I dont think it had anything to do with washing it but i just happened to have the hood open standing there you know but anyways its coming from the bottem half of the engine I dont think its a rod or lifters or anything like that because it still starts and idles fine. It gets louder as you rev the engine but its not loud enough to hear inside the car. It does seem to not pull as hard however but not that noticable it could be the hot humid weather. Any ideas on what it might be. I can try and record what it sounds like if that would help but any ideas. Thanks!

Also pull your spark plugs and check if you got water down in any of them.
To check for a spun bearing have someone use either a stethoscope (sp?) or a long screwdriver to locate the source of the knock. If coming from the bottom of the engine it unfortunately may be a spun bearing.

a spun bearing is were either the main bearing or pistons bearings, which are two metal () that go between the crank and what attaches to the crank. The main thing that causes bearings to wear out is friction and heat. So for instance when the bearing starts to wear out between the piston and the crank, it makes a gap. When this gap get larger, the piston is forced down by the power stroke and it hits the crank causing a knocking sound.

Thank you. I'm still relatively new at all this, I was a truck guy recently converted, and the technologies are very much different. For that reason, the only info I have is about what has gone wrong in my car, haha.
