Default distributor install

got a new dist. ready to go in, my question is even if i get piston 1 to TDC and install it per helms manual, will it need to be retimed, and will it be ok to drive it to wherever i decide to get it timed?

basically don't want to be stranded.

TIA.

it should be fine.... if it wont run take out dist, and turn it 180 degrees the other way... if it sputters turn the dist, either forward or back and you shouldnt have to take it to be timed

The distribitor has a notch so that it can only go in one way

Bad-Monkey, if you don't have a timing gun on hand,
I would mark the position of the old dist. and try to
install the new one in the same position until you can
check the timing with a gun. goodluck

checking it with the timing gun will ensure accuracy and good performance

its pretty much pull the old one and inatsll the new one, it only goes in one way, if it doenst fit turn it 180 deg and it will fit. and even if you dont get it in right the TDC sensor will not let it fire to ruin your engine. So you will be in good shape.
but do throw a timing gun to set it right, if you need to drive it just start it and slide it back and forth till it runs smoothly and you will be ok
Gd luck

You still need to time it.

Put a wire on the jumper by the ECU (cuts out the ECU advance in timing). Then time to about 16 + or - 2 degrees advance.

I always go to Advance and "test" a timing flash to make sure it works. Yea its the cheap way out of it but it works! Definately check your timing.
