Distributor Cap Question...
I have a 92 SR with a JDM H22A and the distributor just went (bunch of squeeling and when taken off it didn't turn freely, there were shavings etc.). Anyway, being ignorant and rushed, I bought a new H22A distributor off ebay but it is for external coil. The local mechanic thinks if I can get cap for an Internal coil distributor, I can use my old internal coil and not have to spend another 170 + bucks (by the way I live in BC, Canada) on a new external coil.
Thing is, Lordco sent us 2 caps, both for external coil. Told Lordco to send a cap for a 93 SR-V but it still was for an external coil. Weren't all preludes pre '94 (OBD 1) Internal coil? Any ideas where I can get the proper cap? Can't use the old cap b/c it is cracked and arcing.
Thanks

This just happened to me this past Sunday. Your bearing is out and your rotor might melt away as mine did. The shaving were like a reddish power right. Your engine may seize from what the honda shop guy told me if you continued to drive it. He told me he has seen some of this engines snap a camshaft just because of this. I have the JDM H22 as well. My honda guy got the US h22 and it didn't work. He would have had to wire in the coil. This was also not a mod shop. So he had mine rebuilt. You could go with the 92-95 Civic Si distributor to eliminate that. You would also use the cap from the civic but the h22 US rotor will work.
happened to me too. got a civic cap, h22 rotor, and converted the ext coil dizzy to be internal by rewiring myself. it was the first time i had ever cracked open a dizzy and got it right on the first try. it's not that hard at all.
