Diffusers
Anyone have any info or links where I could get a rear underbody diffuser preferably carbon fiber for a 5th gen lude?
I already have front diffusers... trying to create maximum downforce and divert air away from catching parts from under the car...
Thanks

Ok.
1ST.) How to modify the front to creat down force in the rear.
1.)Get and lip that goes all the way down to the ground (I mean all the way an 1" of clearence will work)
2.) then get a hood and a bumper the will force air through the bumper and out of the hood.
----what this does is force the air that you're traveling through up over the car.-----
2nd.) the rear.
1.) get an airplane wing and direct it down this will force all the air traveling over you car to be diffuse in a downward force thus increasing spring rates.
Of course you are silly if you do this to our car because the effect of if will not be felt unless you plan on racing in JGTC.

A friend of mine is makeing one for his. Were in the process of making a mold. Email me at highspeed155@comcast.net if you're interested.
Why do people constantly try to make their cars look like they are full blown race cars? Unless your running at the track frequently, which I highly doubt this guy is, an underbody diffuser isn't going to do jack for your car.
The diffuser is functional. We don't deal with any ricy ****! If you have a 5g, try taking off the black trim on the bottom of the rear bumper. Tell me then that you don't notice a difference. We look for every ounce of performance, thats why he already has customers.
i jsut recently had a discussion with someone about this.. we were looking at the difussers that go in the rear bumper.. the air traveling under the car gets caught up in teh reaer bumper.. making it liek a sail.. thats why you see some cars at the drag track wihtout rear bumper covers...
ive been looking at getting a STR or similar one made for the rear bumper of my 4th gen... let the air through instead of the drag. Might get me a 100th or maybe a 10th in the quarter.. but who knows couldn be jsut enough to thrwo me into the 12s... it all helps...

I looked into the same project for my 3rd gen lude (don't laugh... it's got a turbo'd H22a making 575 hp, so I'd say it can see 120mph without even breaking a sweat)
go into a search engine and look under formula 1, aerodynamic's, ect. I found lots of info that really is useful.
see my lude at teaminterlude.com under setups, Ima2nr

Sorry, just checked back on my post...
hmmm... well I was asking for a REAR diffuser, not a big *** wing to put downforce on the rear... which would make the car useless because it's FF. hmmmm...
Onwards, yes the front diffusers do work if set up properly. The point is to force air around and over the car and not under it... thuse increasing aero performance. Racerx... thanks for the tip. I'll get back with you...
Everything I put on my car has a function.
Don't make me get a link to prove it...

Do aerodynamics work w/out speed translation
"VERY fast moving air" =
(answer here) NOYou should just consider making the gap between your rear bumper and the unibody smooth (w/out a gap.)
The extra weight for this ahem diffuser, will probobly hurt more than help..
just my .4cents!
RY...Im about to fall out of my damn chair looking @your fine technical illustration of downforce...
LMAO

Ok... your right, it does work at high speeds, but how do you know exactly at which speed it starts to benefit? In fact, when racing someone... you don't hit 120mph? I like highend power... resulting in high top speeds... maybe that should settle your obession with trying to prove that I don't/won't hit 120+ speeds. It seems that was the bulk of your post... trying to prove/show that I won't be hitting 120mph often. Well, maybe I won't but when I do... having the added control and downforce is at least worth something. Thanks for pretty much NOT answering my question people...
I wasn't asking what you think about diffusers... but where to find a rear diffuser. Anyways, that's enough for now. Out.

Look at it this way. Aerodynamics work at *any* speed. Smaller adjustments will make more dramatic changes at higher speeds, but any improvements will help over all. It's definantly possible to increase your aerodymanics to the point of being benefical even at speeds of 75 mph. every little bit helps. And as for the rear wing, it doesn't have to be designed for rear downforce. It can also be designed to help with the overall aerodynamics of the car. Even bicycles use aerodymanics (hence why the race bikers use those "wheel covers" so there is less air disturbance caused by the spokes).
Fixed aerodynamics work exponencially. What I said above about the rear bumper, you can feel at 60. Basically it comes down to this. Either your looking for every ounce of performance or your not. I, for one, am.
I don't have a wing/diffuser on my car, and it barely sees less then 120
but really, diffusers are great things, but won't do **** for a street car... And I don't think most you guys know what real diffusers look like..

I believe it looks like this, http://overboost.com/pix.asp?image=....l/DSCN8189.jpg the thing on the back that looks like its of a fuggin jet
which like you already stated...
wont do **** on a street car.

actually i have seen a NSX with a rear diffuser, that what i was thinking of when i read this post. if ican get one of those for my lude, it would be nice.. i wont' see fast speed, but if it was mold to the bottom of the car just right it woulnd't be too bad
not that im starting an aguement here, but how the hell do you guys know how and what he does w/his car? i use to see 120 at least once or more a day.
ok so it wont do anything for a street car, why is the air different on the street from the air on the track. ya maybe it wont do anything at 35 mph speed limit, but im sure there are places and times aryodynamics would benifit him and anyone else.
i thought we were here to help each other, not doubt and **** like that.
thats just me, sorry i dont have the answer to your question.

We are helping him save time and money...two of our most valuable items.
So...you saw 120 more than twice a day?
1. how is your driving record..If you did this in town or on the freeway
2. how long were your driving that speed?? (couple mins...hours..what?) do you really think the time and money you would consume is worth .000002 seconds during a street race or at the track...NO.
They idea of a diffuser is usually to help w/downforce...something that is considered in handling, it is not very applicable when drag racing. which is what has been referred to above.
i.e "when driving really fast the rear bumper works like a parachute."
if that is your prob...get some damn carboard (hopefully something stiffer, used here as a simple example) or some other cheap *** material, and make the rear portion of your car smooth. Do not try and build a damn diffuser.
the ahem "diffusers" you see on big *** bodykit'd cars, would slow your car more than your stock bumper.
If you don't think I'm helping...I apologize. My explanation may be harsh, but I want to make sure people understand.
keep in mind that when you lower your car, you are helping create more downforce...
if anyone saw the show on discovery about ayrton senna's crash, the lower your car, the faster you are making the air under the car move, which helps create downforce...
i agree on the making a "cardboard" undertray under the back of your bumper... why spend the cash for something that you don't need to see?
it should make a difference just smoothing that part under your bumper...
if you're doing a diffuser, you have to consider that the bottom of the car is not flat, and you will have to make sure you aren't getting air above the diffuser, or the cardboard piece really)...
so get familiar with the bottom of your car before you go doing just the rear...
there's alot of places on the bottom of your car that you could "flatten" out that would make a difference...

^ Must also think that street racing is bad. And Honda's are only meant to be go 55.
street racing is ok....if done safely, doing 120 on the regular..is not my opinion of safe.
I do speed daily, I think we are all guilty of that..but 120 daily to me is excessvie.
Bear in mind..i have done over 140 in my car, but it was late at night w/no one around...in a very desolate area.
