Dash cluster issue
I am new to the site and have a problem. I bought a 1992 Prelude So and the dash cluster is not working. The only thing that shows is the battery indicator. The turn signals don't work and no back up lights. It is a manual. I have checked all The fuses inn the lower left kick panel and under the hood. Any body got any ideas on where to start looking next?
When you say the dash cluster, are you referring to the digital information cluster (DIC) in the center of the dash that should show fuel, coolant temp and the system warning lamps, or are you referring to the speedomoter/tachometer that also includes the turn signals, high beam, and SRS and 4WS warning lamps if you have those features?
If is it the DIC, and you have checked all the fuses, there are two likely possibilities.
One - the DIC has become loose from the connectors. There are from memory 3 connectors to the DIC (one of which is the clock adjust controls) which might have become loose - although that's unlikely.
Two - the capacitors in the DIC have swelled and possibly leaked. If you remove and dissassemble the DIC you may see capacitors with raised or split tops. If you are luckly the circuit board has not been damaged and you can just solder in new ones. If the circuit board is damaged you may have to repair that with new traces, or replace it completely.
