Default Crank Pulley Problem.

Hey guys, I have a 1999 Honda Prelude and it has a loose crank pulley. Well, I went and had one installed professionally, and it has come loose again, what else could it be? Thanks everyone!

Where is it loose, like wobbly on the crank, even with the bolt down and torqued to spec? Are the key and key way in good shape? If you have taken off balance shaft belt, is the balance shaft pulley still on there, or a spacer?

Does it actually come loose or does it just look like it's wobbling while the car idles?

I replaced the whole thing, as in the keyway, bolt, and pulley itsself, it was torqued to spec when I put it on there. and it does look like its wobbling while it idles, and yeah I had to take the belts off to put the new pulley on.

Is it actually loose though? They all "wobble" while the car sits at idle.

It has to be, if you look down the belt while its running it has a constant movement from left to right. You can also hear it while going down the road.

thats is wrong. nothing should wobble period. that means something is loose which then means you either have a bad tensioner or something wasn't done correctly which will then mean possible boom.

Op if it was taken to a shop to properly do the work then take the care back there and have the place redo the work and before they do the work look over the car to make sure there is nothing possibly damaged. If there is add that to the list of things they need to fix.

You need to determine the root cause of the pulley coming loose.

Please answer our questions clearly. When its wobbling, is the bolt coming loose? That bolt torque is around 180ftlbs. If its wobbling and the bolt is still torqued to spec, the pulley needs to be inspected.

If the original problem was the bolt came loose, you have bigger problems than the pulley itself.

I actually had it inspected by a Honda Master Tech today, he said that they are supposed to have a little wobble to them because the have a rubber insole, the pulley is tight. The bolt is tight. I put 190ftlbs of torque on it.

the wobble should not be noticeable by the eye.

can you take a video of it?

I would quote Blake too but he basically said the same thing. I've always thought that a little bit of a wobble at idle was pretty normal for some of these Honda motors, even a few of my friends that work at the stealerships are in agreement. I guess we're wrong, but I've seen it on a a good number of cars, including my own that just got all new timing related components straight from Honda, including a new crank pulley. But either way...I'd like to see a video of this and compare it to others I've seen

I don't even know. It doesn't make sense. When it's cold it's straight as an arrow. when it warms up it wobbles more then it should. But the pulley is on TIGHT. I took the wheel off and reached in there and tried to move it. and it wouldn't budge. the stealerships were telling me it may be a bad main bearing in the crank causing it to wobble. I really don't know what to do. I can't upload a video of it. Goddamn phone isn't working correctly either. Anyone have anymore input on it?
