Default Compression

Hey guys got a tech question.

I need new pistions and rods and was thinking about going the high- compression route. Thing is, i recently had some Head work (read: head gasket let go) done and they shaved it .020. (which, I understand, is more than normal- all i know is, when we took the head off and put the straight edge on it, you could see a substantial amount of light under it in the center)

anywho, i was wondering if there would be any valve clearance issues if i went with high compression pistions.

any feedback would be greatly appriciated

Id take a closer look at your head. get a set a feeler gauges and see how much the head is warped. You took a staight edge to it after they milled it and saw light? if you can sneak a 20 thou feeler under a straight edge from any direction you may have some problems down the road.

With regards to valve clearance, it depends on the piston manufacturer. Call them and they should be able to tell you what will work with their pistons.

use some clay when you mount the head on the block and you can see if the valves will hit

this also depends on what cams you will be running....your compression is already gonna be around 11 with it milled .20

you wont need much more, maybe just go with type s pistons and that will put you at like 11.9 which is plenty....

and im almost positive the type s pistons wont hit the valves with most cams

right now i've got stock cams, but eventually i plan on going with skunk2 Stage 2... if i decide to go ahead and go all motor

original plan was turbo, but with circumstances being what they are, i'm leaning toward all motor

are type s Rods forged? and where can i get some?

If you're concerned about clearances, you should clay the motor
which ever route you choose.

if they milled the deck then u will be compressing the A/F in a smaller area so u should be getting a higher compression with stock like pistons but u could do a lil bit more compression, just run some high octane gas and watch your timing make sure it isnt to advanced so u dont throw a rod
