Competition Clutches & Timing Belt
Well it's time for a new clutch in my car and my car's at 96k so I'm gonna go ahead and do the t-belt and water pump work too. A few questions...
The guy who is going to be doing the work can get me a Competition Clutch Stage2 and Competition Clutch 8lb flywheel installed for $700. Seems like a good price but who here runs Competition Clutch products and likes them. For all of you in NC...Michael Blackwell @ BRE Motorsports will be doing the work.
And for the timing belt and water pump...he's going to do the manual tensioner mod and replace the following: timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump, cam seals, crank seal, and balance shaft seal. He can do all of that installed for $450.
What you guys think? How are competition clutches and how are this guys prices? I had a long talk with him yesterday and he has done a lot of work on some friends' cars and they're all happy.

Re: Competition Clutches & Timing Belt (VTecLude1994)
the auto - manual conversion parts and new T belt should be around 200 bucks. If he gets wholesale, it will be cheaper. Just some food for thought.
In my opnion, i see no reason for you to install a performance clutch of any kind. Maybe a lightened flywheel, but OEM disc and pressure place should be fine. Or go with an exeddy which is an OEM replacement. May as well replace that damn T/O bearing too. You are going to want to use an OEM unit for that or it will make a shitload of noise.

I'm gonna go ahead and throw in the Stage2 Clutch Kit because a few months down the road I will be building the head and hopefully bumping the compression up a bit. Ya he told me all the parts for the manual tensioner and all the seals and **** would be around 200. And of course I'm replacing the T/O bearing. I'm getting an the disc the pressure plate alignment tool and T/O bearing.

Not sure in your area but around here $450 is a super deal for a timing belt alone. i think the dealerships charge around $700+. Had mine done when the head was pulled for work anyway so i just got charged for the belt at $150 if i remember right. $700 is pretty standard for the clutch ect if that includes parts. labor should be around $400-450, i just had an ACT Stage 2 installed with their TOB and it makes FAR less noise than the OEM. and it shifts better (tighter engagement too, once you get used to it). Went with Fidanza 8lb and it revs nicely, but i never plan to turbo. if you do, keep the heavy fly, you'll want it.

Re: Competition Clutches & Timing Belt (limpmode)
Ya...I thought the lower mount on my DC Sports Header had broken like it does for many people. But I got the car up on a lift and all my exhaust bolts are tight and no heat shields or loose so I'm thinking my T/O bearing may be going bad. Or could it be clutch chatter? It's usually when I'm going through the gears between 20-30% throttle as the V-AFC I reads shifting between 3grand and 3500.
He told me around 250 for the timing belt, manual tensioner mod, balance shaft belt, cam seals, crank seal, balance shaft seal, and water pump. And about 200 labor. The clutch and flywheel is gonna be around 450 or so and he told me 250 for the clutch and flywheel install with new T/O bearing.

there is still no reason for a "Stage 2" clutch with just some head work and bump in compression, but whatever floats your boat.
maybe i should start doing peoples timing belts, ****.

I have a Competition Clutch 6 puck sprung cerametallic clutch in my track car. Great clutch. I also installed a CC ultra lightweight flywheel at the same time.
