Default Collector mod

I've seen a lot of posts about modifying the collector on a header but i'm not sure exactly what the collector is even after reading many posts about it. Is the collector on the header or the downpipe?

so you have to cut the flanges off both pieces, the header and the downpipe where they meet and put bigger ones on?

What if you want to keep the flex pipe? So all you have to change is the downpipe, nothing needs to be done to the header?

flex pipe also comes in diff. sizes, so you would need a 2.5in ID flex pipe which can be found at the K teller site.

So do i need to bring the flex pipe and flanges to the muffler shop or will they already have all the necessary parts? And the 3 bolt flanges they have on the kteller site, those are the exact same ones that come on the DC downpipe and will bolt right up to my exhaust?

This was done with parts from Autozone. $8 in parts to be exact. Its TIG welded and the welding looks better in person than the pics. In person the welding is perfect. You can clearly see the size difference with the two collectors next to each other in this pic.

that depends on the shop, but most do. call and ask. If the flanges aren't right, they can chop one off and weld a new one on in a few seconds.

What are the disadvantages, if any, to ditching the flex pipe when doing this mod?

it doesn't matter. as long as you have either the spring bolts on your flanges or a flex pipe, you'll be fine. Its just to keep your exhaust from breaking if it gets hit.
