Cold starts
Here in canada where I live, right now its about -10. which is 14 in your american way.
I started the 1992 prelude with jdm H22a today, and on the crank side, i got some sort of rattle. then it died. Then I started it up again and it was perfect.
Im not sure if it is in fact a rattle, but its the best description. rattle/grind. almost sounds like something is working way too hard. because when I give it gas, it will choke. but again, 2nd fire up... runs perfect. oil pump?
It has done this 3 times in the past week, and every time on the 2nd try, it is perfect.
What should I start trouble shooting
PS- it has just started doing this when the weather got really cold. and I am also leaking a substantial amount of oil from somewhere(its been getting better though, i dont notice that much oil leaking any more). the main seals can be ruled out. front and rear.

bad starter?
Hopefully it isnt your oil pump, grinding may means metal flakes in that case...
water pump? any over heating once its hot? -may be hard to tell in the super cold lol.
check to see if and of your pullies are loose/wobbly. Pulley bearings can make a grinding/squealing sound randomly.
AC compressor bearing getting old?
power steering pump?
old alternator? any related issues?
Thats about all I can think of lol, video's speak louder then letters. Every morning pop the hood, set up a camera, and record it.
Maybe the act of you trying to catch it on camera will somehow make it go away. At least until the day you dont set up the camera haha.

Starter and alt check out. I did an auto one full diagnostic on them. Well to see if they are functioning. Water pump, timing and kaizenspeed tensioner were done in the summer. Not over heating.
