Default code P0740...need help please

CEL light came on....got it diagnosed....got code P0740. Searched and found Electrical Malfunction of Torque converter clutch. I have a 98 Prelude SS. Please tell me the best way to deal with this problem. Honda quoted 3500 for a new tranny. Is a 5 spd my best bet??

if you plan on keepinng the car, do a 5 spd conversion. i'd never buy an auto tranny car in teh first place..

Im not 100% but 3500 seems a bit steep for the new tranny. If you got the money definetly go with the 5 spd conversion, or what I would do is try and sell the old one and get a newer 5 spd so you wont have to deal with the swap, but is going to cost you obviously.

Did you only get the CEL for no reason? Does it drive OK? If so maybe just try reseting it and see if it comes back, unless someone on here can give you a better idea of what exactly that problem could be/what it can do.

Sux for us auto luders, paying for something that comes standard and would have been cheaper in the first place

well when i drive....there is quite a lag on the shifting and whenever it kicks in, it makes the car jolt. And to top that off...there is a change in the sound of the engine while at idle. Well an auto tranny wasnt my choice. it was my parents' gift to me back in high school. Cant really complain now when you get gifts for free right.

Did you resolve your P0740 issue? If yes, what was the outcome?

thanks
