Default Clutch Problems...???

I am pretty sure my clutch is just a/b gone...I really noticed this yesterday...seems like it has no catch point or holding power...my prelude is a 97 base w/ 47K miles on it...I thought the clutch would last longer than that but I guess not...Oh well what is a good aftermarket street/race clutch...Clutchmasters?...and does anyone know a reasonable install price for a clutch?

47K miles!??! thats not very long at ALL. Its not under warranty? Both clutches in my two preludes' factory clutches lasted 100,000 miles. Do you slip it a lot when driving?

Worse yet: when you downshift, do you rev-match and then let the clutch out, or do you just slllooowwwllly let the clutch out to make a smooth downshift? the latter will wear a clutch out very fast.

ACT heavy-duty clutch plate w/ their organic disc RULES. Again, had it in both ludes and its awesome. Good smooth engagement, ok for stop & go traffic, but you can still chirp 3rd gear

parts are around $400 I think, and install is $200-$275 I had the first clutch in my non-vtec 4th gen for 50,000 miles, and I've had this clutch in my vtec 4th gen for about 25,000 miles. Still feels new.

You might be riding your clutch too much, it might be a good idea to take a lesson. I'm not trying to dog you, I mean sometimes techniques help mimamize wear of clutch. Such as, when I drive I aslways shift at perfect (almost) shifting points and release the clutch pedal pretty fast. Around corners I rev match. Also, when traffic isn't busy, around corners I keep it in third insted of down-shifting into second. Stuff like that helps save your clutch and last you more than 100K miles

I don't really think it's my driving b/c I have only had the car for a/b 3-4K miles...I guess it could be the previous driver of the car...oh well it's an excuse to get a good aftermarket one.

first: ACT is the best , 2nd... get an adjustment and see if that helps... 47k seems pretty low unless you beat the hell out of it

I totally agree here, I am highly satisfied with my ACT HD pressure plate/organic disk setup.. People go out for these "stage 3 or 4" clutch kits and there is NO need for them and they are highly unreliable!.. This street setup will handle loads of power, you won't have to go to anything better unless you go to FI..

the ACT HD pressure plate and Street disc or rated up to 600hp.. dropping at max engine speed all day long won't even affect it.. however your tires might need replacing soon... if you do get a new clutch, save yourself 300 dollars (labor cost varies) and get a 7lb flywheel also...

lighten fly wheel and stage 3 clutch === nice bite. but if you are rounding the corner, try to practice power braking while in 3rd gear. youll stop engagin in your clutch as much, but down falll you eat brake pads. but i rahter get new brake pads then keep on getting new clutches. as for adjusting your clutch what year lude is it? you got to remebr that the mew ludes are hydrolic basic clutches and not cable so there self adjusting for the most part. but your at 47,000 miles, you just go to learn to stop riding the clutch and try when ever you shift to shift fast. i can still shift fast and make a smooth shift without "popping" the clutch. juts rev match it and youll do fine.
