Default clutch problem

I did a search but I wasn't able to really find what I was looking for. I've deduced that it may either be a bad master cylinder or slave cylinder but I want to know if any other luders have had this problem.

My clutch will seldom allow me to engage any gears. At a stop, it will seldom allow me to easily put my car into gear, and at crusing speds, it's damn near impossible to put it into gear, I really have to jam it in while I'm stepping all the way down on the clutch. It's parked right now, but I'd really like to konw the actual problem, as well as the solution. If it's the cylinders, do they have to be replaced or can they be repaired?

BTW, I can step on my clutch and it comes back to the upright position but it feels as if the last little part of stepping on it, when it's closest to the gournd is where it's the hardest to push, it feels like I should be pushing further in order to get it into gear smoothly. Any helpwould be great!

1. check your fluid
2. check the slave cylinder, see if you can see any obvious leaks

you might just need to bleed your slave clyinder or it might need to be replaced. mine went bad after bout 70k miles. they're only like $20 and pretty easy to swap out. if it's not the slave i can't really tell ya because i don't know much bout the master cylinder.

Okay put the car into gear, clutch in then start the car. Does the car move?? I am guessing it doesn't. If the car isn't moving then the clutch is disengaging. When is that last time you changed your MT fluid?? Have you checked it? Is it full?? The problem is not the clutch but rather the transmission. Did it just start doing this oneday? First thing I would do is change the tranny fluid. If you where using regular motor oil change over to MTF. I am using GM sychromesh MTF and I love it. But any MTF is better than motor oil. It might be something actually broken rather than sticking but IMO it's worth the $30 to try it.
