looks nice. I'm thinking of doing mine but trying to get somewhat of a neon green.. since my car is brittany blue-green metallic.. blue gauges might look weird. how much did you pay for teh parts for the el cluster and control box?

Re: (shutta)
I got my el-gauge from an auto shop for about 100, and the control box through somebody on PO for about $50. Then another say $15 for wiring at Radio Shack (I bought a LOT of wiring for other projects as well).

or is the screen tinted green</TD></TR></TABLE>
on the fuel and temp yes...the led is white...there is a green tinted plastic peice over it...you could make an orange one....
but i doubt you could (easily) do that with the EL guage cluster....but with an older one you could....its just bulbs...

Re: (DarkBB4)
I was wondering for anyone who has done the 4th Gen. LED conversion for the climate control, do you happen to know if its the same for the 5th Gens? I've done plenty of 5th Gen climate controls, but I have someone who wants me to do a 4th Gen, and I just wanted to know if they're pretty much the same or not?

Re: (prelude1897)
i'm not sure how the led install is for the 5th gen but for the 4th gen, all i had to do was replace 3 of the bulbs inside the climate control with some leds and that's basically it.

With the 5th Gen. you have to add an LED bulb for each button...

Re: (prelude1897)
oh...it's completely different for the 4th gen, and alot easier to install. There are three bulbs (similar to the instrument cluster bulbs) in the 4th gen climate control. Each bulb illuminates their corresponding buttons through acrylic plastic that distributes the light from the bulb to the buttons. There are two bulbs on the top half of the climate control (one that lights up the "air direction" buttons and the other bulb lights up the defogger, inside air circulation, and a/c buttons. The 3rd bulb illuminates the bottom half of the climate control (the cold/hot switch and the fan speed switch). All i did was replace the bulbs with some leds. A very easy task compared to the 5th gen. Those buttons on the 5th gen climate control must be bright as crap since there's an led behind each button.

ok, quick q for this old, usefull thread.
I got el's, and I was going to use a couple layers of blue and call it a day... however are there led's in the back of the el gauge taht could just be changed instead? is there any way of adding blue leds instead?

Re: (_BB6)
wow...... old thread can we say?
so 2 layers of purple over the temp/gas and 1 layer of blue over the speedo/tach?
do you put it on the inside of the plastic or against the flat part of the gague itself?
