At the top of this forum page, about 5 threads down, there's a FAQ thread that has answers to a LOT of tech questions. There's a section in there about tuning with VAFCs, ECU upgrades, Hondata, etc. Take some time to read through it, there's a lot of info there. Can't promise it'll answer ALL your questions, but you did say "the basics."

well thanks for the awnsers. heres what it is. ive been searching around honda-tech reading a bunch of diffrent posts, just soaking up as much knowledge as i can about my car in particualar. fist thing i want to find out is if my car is up to factory spec. i got a 92 lude si. h23a1 i want to upgrade over winter and through spring. it is 100 percent stock right done to the am/fm tape deck. so far ive come up with this so far as to the basics of tuning. feel free to correct me if im wrong. first thing u can do is simple i/h/e. for my car set up right now a 2 1/4 exhaust pipe should be sufficent. as for what size headers should be idk yet. after that a turbo kit may be added im stil reading up on that section. after turboing internals on motor may be done but if they r done u need to upgrade to a stand alone ecu and have it dynoed. that managing your fuel, air, and oil r key elements to good tuning. so what i want to know is for starters a good set up for my motor i/h/e. i think for now i go with cold air intake a st of headers and exhaust all by greddy but i want it all to be 100 percent in sync with my h23a1

You need to do a LLLOOOTTTT more reading before you buy anything....Greddy does not make a header for an H23.

Get a Megan header from eBay, get an Ebay cheap-o intake pipe and a good filter to put on it and have a local shop make you a custom exhaust with a resonator, high flow cat and good muffler (I like Magnaflow) and that will be a start for you.

Do not buy any turbo parts until you do some more reading!

What is considered a healthy idol for a car? My car idols around 500 RPM's, but it isnt a smooth idol, its more like vibrations. I am taking it to a mechanic on wednesday to have him look at it cause I really have no clue. Also it burns oil. I can smell it from time to time, I try to look at it from the top but i can see no no oil coming from valve cover, or anywhere in plain sight. It does leave drops of oil underneath the oil pan on the bottom of the car and the pan itself is coated with fresh oil everyday. I am taking it to a mechanic to have them look at both those problems but if anyone has any thoughts Id appreciate input.

About the shaking. I was just reading the owners manual for the Lude and it says that the lude needs premium gas octane 91 or higher. I put the regular in last time at pump. Does anyone think it could be the bad gas that is causing the shaking?

Fix your problem first, then upgrade your car. Learn to stay away from mechanics if at all possible and DIY. Increase your idle and chances are your vibrations will stop.

Resonator is the same as a test pipe? Ive been doing some googling is it a replacement for a cat converter. I took my lude into the mechanic today and it turned out to be really cheap to fix. An oil gasket or something Yet I havent checked it out yet, but now that its good to got some money for some basic mods. Im looking at megan's offical web site and borla's offical web site. I think Im gonna try and install myself. I just need to find a tool list. Im looking at headers intake and exshaust during septmeber

OKay guys I really am a noob for now. The oil gasket bolts were shaken loose. Thus letting oil fly all over the place. Now I had my mechianc tell me this. One hour later the bolts were loose again. What can be done to keep them from not shaking loose again

use some thread lock on them (the red kind).

if you are looking at getting a header and you might want to put turbo on the car then you will have to turn around and sell the header, it will be useless when you go turbo.

keep on reading some more.

Yeah I know I read that thred by JG Luder about planning ahead. Turbo probally wont come till next June for me anyway. Id probally have to sell the header and exhaust at the sae time. The turbo kit is gonna call for a thicker pipe anyway. Im pretty sure the intake will go to. So for the winter I have a little something to play with. Besides I still have to find a tuning shop in my area.
