Default base model vs sh

If I got an sh now and built up a base model h22a, what else needs to be swapped when i change out the engines in the future? are the transaxles any different between them? is the tranny very different?

Well, you might need the base ecu, since you wont have the ATTS unit anymore. I dont know if the ECU is still expecting the ATTS control unit to still be hooked up. Im sure someone knows, so hopefully they will speak up. The transaxle and transmission is the same thing. If you mean the halfshafts (axles), according to the Service Manual, the axles are different, but only in the adjusted length. Meaning that you can change the length. Unless you can get the axles side by side, or someone already knows, Id get somone at the dealer parts department to compare the part numbers. The lady at the local dealer here was pretty helpful when I was comparing the mainshafts\countershafts in the 4th gen transmissions to the 5th gens. Printed out part numbers and diagrams for me to look over, as well as explaining the part numbers. Now the transmission itself is very different. Its a different case, and you wont be able to use it with the base block (which is also different). The base also uses an intermediate shaft, which you will also need to go with that transmission. If it helps, the base transmission code for the 5th gen is M2Y4, the SH is M2U4. I have the 4th gen VTEC transmission code around somewhere and can look it up if you decide to use a 4th gen box.

If you use the SH ecu your ATTS light would be on all the time and a CEL code I'm sure. 4th gen VTEC tranny code is M2F4.

Shafts are different as are the struts, aside from the obvious block/tranny difference. Pics of the struts are here: http://www.preludeonline.com/showthr...threadid=87704
