automatic bad or good?
ok i have a 98 prelude with the automatic and everyone is tellin me that it wont handle a 75 shot on it nor a turbo is this true and is it true that you have to cut the left wheel well and fire wall to do a 5 speed conv. and if you can convert it is there a kit and how much would it cost ... i really need this one guys cause i gotta whip the **** outta of all these mustangs and camaros in mo-town help me.. thanks
automatics are only designed to handle only so much horspower and torque...a 50 would be ok, but your gonna need a 5 speed with a turbo, dunno about cutting to get it to fit though, never heard of that

Auto 9 psi JRSC here. I don't expect the tranny to last long, after which I am going to do a 5 speed swap. High power on the tranny is a risk, so it is entirely up to you whether you want to take on that burden. No, you do not need to cut the wheel well for the swap. There is no kit for the swap. A swap is going to run you between $3k-$5k, depending on who does it and where you get the parts. It can be done for under $2k if you seek out the parts yourself and do the swap yourself.
My advice--from someone who owns a high power 2000 SS lude--get another car.

Listen to the man, Shark knows his SS (Sport Shift, in case you didn't know) **** dude. And I really hope you're talking about V6 Stangs/Camaros dude, 'cause you would need a WHOLE lot of $$$ to whip any V8 ***. There was post recently from a dude with i/h/e and a like a 70 shot running mid-14's in his SS (auto) Lude, so low-14's with some other mods IS possible (which is what it will take you to even get close to a STOCK Stang GT who's gonna be running low 14's/high 13's), but like I said before it ain't gonna be cheap.
If you're willing to boost it or fog it (along w/some assorted QUALITY bolt-ons & maybe some cams, flywheel, etc), be prepared to spend around $5000+ to run low-14's, and still probably lose to that Camaro anyway. Is that acceptable to you? It'll be faster yes, but fast enough?

I just lost my SS tranny at the 75,000mi mark on Friday. I hope you still have a warranty if you plan on keeping your SS, cause they're notorious for takin a crap around the 60,000mi mark. Frick had to pay $70 to get it towed from Windsor to Dearborn! Thank god for still having the warranty and AAA
Peace

You don't have to cut the firewall, wheel-well, or anything. All the parts will directly bolt up.

I'm sorry dude, but I SAW a STOCK Stang GT run low 14's/high 13's (his best was a 13.9) at VMS last summer, and he didn't have anything aftermarket on it, not even a shift ****.
The only real reason that we even paid attention to him was because he kept lining up against a S2000 and he had the absolute slowest V8 Stang there.
The 2k1 S2000 that repeatedly lost to the GT was stock also, not even a K&N filter (he had just removed his stock airbox cover) and never ran better than a 14.2 even while dumping it like crazy at the line trying to get a decent launch. You can doubt me all you want dude, go line up with one and watch the board...

Like Shark said, the SS tranny ain't gonna like boost, it ain't gonna like a fat shot of gas either, and doing either will blow the extended warranty all to hell, so... Do whatever you want, just keep in the back of your mind that you started out anywhere from a half to a whole sec behind a base/SH in the 1/4, so you're destined to be slower than you rightfully should be no matter what you do. Yes, you can make it faster, it's been done, but no it won't be as fast as it's base counterpart with the same mods.
I've heard of people pushing the SS tranny to it's limit, but eventually you'll be unhappy and looking at a swap, or worse, pissed and getting a rebuild. I suggest ******* the **** out of it so it'll hurry up and blow the **** up, then at least upgrade to the newer SS parts (IF you can't swap the tranny or sell the car).
