Default Atts question??

Newbie here...
Just picked up a 97 SH and my "ATTS" light has come on. Luckily it is still under warranty. I have researched some and it appears it could be the control unit?
Anything else it could be, just curious how much is this part and is it an easy fix??

is it just the atts light?

it could be a number of things. the only way to tell for sure is to pull the code and check it against the manual.

nothing to do with the atts unit is cheap. but if you are still under warrenty then i suggest that you take that thing in asap and have them fix it.

did you get it at a honda dealership?

Try reseting the ECU and see if it comes back.

What's done to the car, mods wise?

No mods, completly stock..and it is the only light that comes on. It won't appear after you shut it off and start it again, but shortly comes on in a turn..And i did not get it from a honda dealership, actually a Jeep dealership...

So there's no trace of suspension mods? Hmm it could be the wheel sensor. All 4 wheels/tires are the same size right?

So just the ATTS light comes on. I'd take it back to the Jeep dealership. Didn't the light come on while you test drove it?

Yes, all wheels and tires are the same..standard type sh 16" wheels. And No, the light did not come on in the test drive and i took some nice turns. It first came on last night on pretty nice curve on the turnpike going about 70mph and then stayed on all night...I am hoping it is something simple like a sensor or control unit. Would the codes dictate this??

Did you try resetting the ECU? It does sound like a sensor went bad.

Yes pulling the code will tell you where the problem is.

Your car's a 1997 model? Bad year, because that's when they introduced the ATTS in the Prelude.

No, i did not reset the ECU yet, I plan on just taking it in since it is under warranty and get my free rental. Yea, the downside to the 97 is all the little quirks. Great car though, I am loving it. As for the sensor? exspensive parts? install?

Try resetting it, it might cure it. If not, just take it to the dealership and let them fix it. Take the free rental and abuse it. haha

As for the sensor, I'm not sure, maybe around $100+. Shouldn't be hard to replace if you know what you're doing. It's only a sensor.

The prelude SH is a great car, I miss the high revving engine and sleek body.

Make sure all your tires are inflated properly, that the gas cap is tightened three clicks, and that there isnt anything that could be restricting any of the sensors.

other then that clear the code by removing the negative terminal on your battery for about a minute or two. then like peter said if it comes back take that ****** to the stealership.

i would suggest that if they are affiliated with a honda dealership that you see if they can do the work. the ATTS unit is a HONDA / ACURA only thing. the closest unit to it is on the Skyline and that makes ATTS look like baby food at a seven course meal.

****, one time when I still had the Prelude. I was on my way home from work. All of a sudden the CEL/ATTS light suddenly came on. I was like, "damn! this car is ******* brand new!"

I got home, consulted HT. I went to check the gas cap and that was it, for some reason it popped off. Maybe due to humidity? I reset the ECU and the ATTS/CEL never came back on.

Another time it came on was when I didn't know **** and placed the donut in the front.

Anyways, back on topic. Listen to Shakes aka Doug, he's the ******* man I tell you!

ATTASEA or something like that. if you go to any of the Skyline boards you can find it. it is what gives the Skyline its AWD just like the new RL is the SH AWD. same concept.

thats why the Skyline is not a true AWD whereas the STi, WRX, and the EVO are. they have true differentials, not clutch based systems like ATTS.

i highly doubt it is the gas cap, but its free and easy to check.

if its just throwing the ATTS light, then its an ATTS Problem. If it were a CEL, then the ATTS would come on with it as a safty precaution. Take that sombitch back to the stealership and tell them to fix it. dont even mess with it if its under warranty.

Obviously I am going to take it to the dealer hence it being under warranty. I am just inquiring to the problem, being a new prelude owner. I pulled the diagnostic codes and nothing came up (went to autozone). Is there a seperate way to pull the atts code? Would that not show up on regular engine diagnostic's? The other thing is about it, it is very random. I could go for a 20 min drive and it would not come on. Stop, park, drive another 20 mins and it is on all the time. It is very random, and there is no same time that it comes on. Like I said I am going to take it in for warranty, I am just trying to get some kind of sense for what the problem is though for current and future reference...

Sounds like you have a faulty sensor/wire. Since it's intermittent, it's a bitch diagnose. Just bring it to the dealership and let them know it's intermittent.
