Default Air Condition delete help

I have been trying to take out the AC from my 4th gen, and have run into some trouble...

after taking all the lines/radiator/dryer out from the engine bay, i have been trying to take the core out from behind the dash. I have been told that i need to take the whole dash out, but have also been told that I can drop the plastic black box (which covers the core) out from under the dash.

so far i have taken out the glove box and center console for clearance... I've also removed from what I think is all the bolts/nuts/screws needed to take the box out, along with the drain hose and grommet that surrounds it.

It seems that the box is getting caught on something near the firewall... another problem is that the box is not able to get past the bottom bolts that are fixed on the firewall as you can see in the picture (just below the box and above the top left area of the ECU).

After trying to free this box for about 4 hours, I decided to jump on here and see if anybody had any input...

I would recommend checking the workshop manual. It most likely would
have a removal/installion guide for dealing with that part. If you dont
already have a manual, pick one up or download it. There is a free
download available at spoonertuner.com.

Did you remove both of the refrigerant lines connection to it on the other side of the firewall? If so I would double check for any nuts and screws still holding it on. I know on the 5 gen it is a real pain to take out but it is just a matter of clearing that bottom support mounting bolt.

thanks guys for the help... i swear this thing is cursed!!

last night i gave in and just started ripping into it... I have all the lines disconnected at the firewall. cut the brackets at the bottom, along with the studs just to make sure i can clear them... broke the box a little by yanking and bending it, but I've still gotten nowhere with it!

I think at this point I'm going to have to muscle it out and hope for the best... from what i have researched I've done everything i possibly can to take this out, but it doesn't want to budge.

Thanks again fellas!

Good to hear you worked it out. I havent seen a writeup on this topic
before so i think it would be very useful if you made one.
