98 prelude head gasket replacement
H22............i wrote a post about me haveing an oil leaking problem..someone posted back sayn it could be my oil cooler ring, well i doubt its that..i have oil residue right under neath the vtec soleniod, looks like its spilling from there. im thinking it can be my head gasket, there is also oil all over my transmission all thru the bottom of the car.. I THINK I KNOW WHAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED IT, i had a radiator go bad on me and i was riden on it for 1 week like that..my car temp rose high..so it porb mest up like that, but anyways now thinking of changen my head gasket and seeing whats up after that, but now i need to know CAN I DO THE HEAD GASKET SWAP MYSELF?..OR SHOULD I HAVE SOMEONE DO IT FOR ME WHO KNOWS BEST. CUZ I KNOW U HAVE TO TORQUE IT BACK DOWN ONCE U PUT THE NEW GASKET TO SPECIFIC TORQUE PRESSURE. DO I NEED TO BUY NEW HEAD BOLTS?. WHAT DO I NEED IN ORDER TO DO THIS HEAD SWAP IF I DID IT MYSELF!
ALSO I THINK IM STARTN TO HAVE A TRANNY PROBLEM..SHOULD I SWAP IT OR GET IT SERVICED? (AUTO)-(YES I KNOW AUTO TRANNYS SUCK, BUT I DIDNT CARE I JUST WANTED MY BLACK PAINT WITH BLACK LEATHER INTERIOR PRELUDE
LET ME KNOW THOUGH
THANK U.

If your asking if you can do it your self, then no. I would not do this my self if you have no knowledge or a little know-how about mechanics in your brain. Its not like putting in a new intake. Anything can be done by your self, but you have to have 1. The Tools 2. The Knowledge and 3. a little experience under the hood.
I would let someone else who has experience do this, it will be alot of work. And yes you do need to replace the head bolts. Are you sure the oil leak is not comming from the VTEC solenoid? I had oil in the same locations you described and it was the VTEC solenoid gasket. The oil would run down the side of the head and in between the head and block and run down the back of the engine and tranny.
Also if you head gasket is leaking do to over heating, you more than likely have a warped head/block causing the gasket to leak. Are you mixing oil/coolant?

You don't sound like someone who should touch a car other than going to the car wash...I'd take it in if I were you.

Well, why would you jump to the head gasket instead of looking at the source of the problem?
