'93 VTEC overheating problems
Hi everyone. I just recently bought a 1993 Prelude VTEC, 120k miles on it, 100% stock. So today i was driving on the freeway and the engine started heating up. Wasnt doing anythin crazy just cruising along at 80mph, noticed temperature gauge went to 3/4 ths, i started getting concerned, and then it went almost to max n i was like oh **** im pulling over. So i get off the freeway, park in a gas station and open the hood. Theres coolant sprayed all over the front left side of the engine bay and its dripping down under the car. I have no idea of what to do, so a friendly guy that was filling up opened up the radiator for me and filled it up with water. The water intitially bubbled and spouted all over the engine, but he gradually filled it up. He then told me it was likely my thermostat had died and wasnt circulating the coolant and that i needed to "bleed" the coolant system to get the air out. So i drove it back home at 60mph, temp was at half most of the time but got to 3/4ths again by the time i got off the freeway. Anyone know whether that guy was right and what the real problem could be?
well it could be alot of things your water pump is goin out. your fans arnt kicking in. or mybe your pipes gotta cut in them. just change all that then you should be fine.good luck
One of your hoses probably sprung a leak. Its possible that it could only start leaking when the coolant gets warmed up and starts circulating. You should replace all of your coolant hoses. The heater hose in my 93 VTEC sprung a pin sized leak that would only start leaking when the car was warmed up and circulating coolant. It was spraying coolant so I had to follow the flow to see where it was actually comming from. When the car was off it wouldn't leak.
