My budget is like 600$ but I want to get a engine with some power and I read a couple forums and I keep seeing the h22 and they say its pretty good but they say they are expensive.

It's possible but you will need to find someone giving away a long block, possibly in need of a little refresh. The most important part you'll need to the tools and knowledge to do it all on a budget of $600, which is no easy task. You'll also need a junkyard close by with a prelude that can be used as a donor car. Again, possible but a lot of things need to line up just right and you need to know what you are doing and what you are looking for.

So with a 92 Prelude and a $600 budget, your going to want to stay OBDI I am thinking since you have an OBDI car. Your going to be looking at either a H or F series engine produced from years 1992 through 1995.
Here are your options in rough order of cost and power:
Budget permitting, you could always turbo the lesser powerful F series and make more power than any H or F series makes stock but I'm not sure if you want to go that route.
Check out ebay, and various online sites that offer used engines, some are JDM only (Japanese market) but finding any of these motors shouldn't be too hard. Google it.
Here are your options in rough order of cost and power:
- H22A (Japanese Market)-Either 187hp/152tq or 197hp/161tq
- H22A1 (US, Canadian and Australian Markets)-187hp/153tq
- H22A2 (European Market)-182hp
- H23 (Japanese Market)-160hp/156tq
- H23A1 (US, Canadian and Australian Markets)-160hp/156tq
- H23A2 (European Market)-160hp/154tq
- H23A3 (European Market)-160hp/154tq
- F22B1 (US and Japanese Market)-145hp/147tq
- F22B2 (US and Other Markets)-130hp/139tq

Re: 92 prelude build
Vague thread is vague. I don't own a fourth generation Prelude as of yet but definitely something to ask yourself is what's your end goal? Do you plan on boosting or sticking with the bare NA? From what I can recall after lurking and researching on this car for quite sometime, the H22s is the best route if you plan to stay NA and H23 for a boosted path. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anybody.

Id go with a F series man, any H series is gonna cost you too much, I mean, by all means, throw an H series in there is you can find one cheap enough.
F22B1:
Found in: 1994-1997 Accord EX and in 1993 JDM Accord models 2.2VTE, VTL & VTS as well as the 1997 Acura CL.
F22B1:

- VTEC
- 2.2L (Same displacement as the H series, more than the 2.0L 4cyl engines found in older Preludes)
- OBDI (In '93,'94 and '95 Models: Important due to the fact that you have an OBDI car)
- 145hp
- 147tq (More than alot of the other 4cyl Honda motors)
- 8.5:1 Compression (Great for boost yet still high enough for good throttle response and power)
- Cast Iron Cylinder Liners (Strong and again, great for aftermarket pistons or boost)
- Fairly Cheap (They go on eBay from anywhere between $350-$600)
- They are strong and durable motors that can go for nearly 300k miles
- They make great power with a simple turbo kit and hold up well
