5th Gen problem
Okay, i have a 5th gen and theres a big problem. When i drive and the car is warmed up for some reason around 2700-3300 rpm my car starts bogging out really bad like its getting no power and i can barely accellerate unless i punch it then it starts to go. I have a msd 6al ignition system with blaster coil. I changed the blaster coil, spark plugs, wires already and it's still having the same problem. It drives fine unless i hit those rpms and when i hit the clutch and hold the gas when it's doing it, it runs fine. If its in neutral and i press the gas it can go thru the whole rpm band with no problems, just whenever it's in gear it feels like somethings holding the car back from accellerating. It almost feels like a misfire but no CEL come on...
I read a couple years back on this forum someone having idle problems, they cleaned the throttle body and it ran fine. But im not having idle problems, only in gear when im accellerating..
Help is appreciated

*also,
I removed my aftermarket alarm system, and after i did that all of this started happening... i doubt that it had anything to do with it but i figured i'd let yall know..

Did you remove the aftermarket coil and ignition system to see if that was the problem? If it still happens with the stock coil and ignition, pull the plugs, replace them, the cap and rotor. Clean the throttle body really well and get your injectors cleaned and/or tested. If possible get a real time scanner to check your o2 for laziness.
Might want to check your CAT. I know on some of my other cars have had problems accelerating when the CAT is starting to get plugged. Just a thought.
check on a scanner to see if in closed loop first. if not you might me stuck n limp mode. you have a problem only under load that we understand. damn man it's really a hard one without it in front of me. it ONLY happens in that rpm range? egr starts to open around that rpm range (2500 or so) hmmmmmm....

i was thinking cat myself but is it only in that rpm range under load? if so, that wouldn't make alot of sense. OP?????

Thank you guys so much for the feedback!
To answer the question you had, yes it happens only around that RPM range for some reason. I was throwing a code before saying EGR flow insufficient so i went to honda and bought a new EGR valve gasket and cleaned mine out with carburator cleaner really well and it's still having the same problem. Any thoughts?
Thanks again guys you've been a great help!

Sounds like a classic case of the EGR runners in the intake manifold getting clogged up. Should be able to find a very informative thread about the cleaning procedure in the Prelude FAQs.
so yes only in that range. egr. you've been there before so it won't be that bad. add some vacuum when off and see if 1 it holds vac and 2 it lifts. don't add too much vac though 5-10 inchomerc
i'll do that vacuum test tomorrow first thing and i'll let yall know how it went. quick question, where can i get the vacuum pump?
Thanks guys yall have been a GREAT help!!

did the vacuum test, and it's still holding pressure fine. i took out the egr valve once again cleaned it out and the ports on the intake manifold and i still get the same problem.
obd2 reader says EGR flow insufficient still.. what else can i do?
ideas are welcome! thanks

Hey guys so i talked to a buddy of mine who works at a mercedes house, and he told me it sounds like the egr valve due to the symptoms. He said i should unplug the vacuum line to it and the electrical connector to the EGR valve and if it's the EGR valve the problem would stop. so i asked him wouldnt that cause problems if i did that and he told me no it's only used for emissions purposes. Anyways, I removed the little vacuum line and unplugged the electrical harness, it drove fine most of the day then when i turned on the AC it started doing it once again...... this is really starting to get on my nerves i don't want to drive my other car with no ac or p/s. so any ideas on what i could do, or what it could be would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks again,
Thanks again,
