Probably wouldn't throw a code for the main relay.
It's under the dash, drive side. It's gray, but there's a few under there.. So good luck figuring out which is which! lol
Also, check your dizzy.
[Shameless Plug: If you want a main relay, I have one that I'm selling. Just let me know.]

Have you had the ignition recall done? Almost all 98s require this.
Search "honda owners link" on google. Go to the website and setup an account. It'll tell you if the recall applies to you.

Get the recall done!
My fiancees 97 sh prelude did the same thing and drove us nuts. I went to the nearest dealership and they said there was a recall for the ignition switch. The symptoms include hard to start, randomly dies, and hard to start after it dies.
The recall actually applies to 96-01 civic-odessey-prelude-and the cr-v.
Its a simply fix and it being a recall its done for free, just go ask.

Re: (russlan44)
Its free, its a manditory recall that has to be preformed no matter what the mileage is. There is only one thing. If the Warranty has been previously void due to Salvage title or the dealership revoked the warranty cause of reasons they see fit than you must pay for it.
If the warranty was not voided... no matter what milage they have to do the recall.
And its the ignition switch located on the side of the steering column. It will take about 1 hour. You be very happy you got it done.

Re: (November5th)
ok, i got the whole ignition from ebay. the seller said it should work. i couldnt get it gone at a dealer because my car is salvage and they say id have to pay around $425. so my question is, can i change the plastic hardware alone, without having to swap in the entaire ignition? thanks a lot guys

Re: (russlan44)
Heads up, my 1997 is doing the same thing. I took it to Honda today, and they will let me know tomorrow what the problem is.
When I purchased my Prelude, the engine was blown. I swapped in a H22A and the dealer told me that stalling is a common problem in 1997 to 1999 Preludes and there were recalls about it. He also told me I no longer qualify for the recall because my car was modified!

Re: (russlan44)
Just replaced my ignition switch.
I had the same problem.
To my suprise i got this part for free from the honda dealer here in europe.
Only about 10-15 minutes of work for replacing it
I broke the old one open and it was burned and worn.
