Default 4WS question

Anyone ever have problems with there 4WS?
The light comes on all the time in my 4th gen (probably like every 3rd or 4th time I start up the car)
All I do is turn the engine off and start again and it seems to work fine, but it is starting to annoy me...
Anyone know of a possible reason this is happening?

There are a few things that could be causing this. (mine does it once in a while also) When you start the car the 4WS light should come on then go off in a second which is normal. However if the car moves while that light is still on it will diasable the 4WS untill the car has been turned off and restarted. I don't know the reason it is made this way. Also You can check the code the same way you do the engine codes. If you don't have a list of the codes I can get them for you.

yeah, the light always comes on when the car is started, and then normally goes off. But often it just stays on even if the car is stationary the whole time...

if you have the codes that would be great help! I am pretty sure the problem isn't mechanical, cause I have had the alignment done like 5 times to make sure the sensors are meeting up...

I have the codes but they are at a friends house... So I can get them when I go there tomorow. Or you could get the code call a dealor and they should be able to tell you what that code is. I have done this in the past and they have always been willing to help me out.

heh slightly different, but my ABS does that every now and then.. exact same symptoms, and if you restart it turns off. During the last inspection for my car, the dealership noticed and checked it out, said it wasn't storing the error codes properly or something and the only thing to do was replace the main control module (out of warrenty) which was $800. Screw that, I don't like ABS in the snow anyhow

I have the SAME EXACT problem with my car. My 4WS light comes on about every 4th time I start my car.
Any ideas?? I would like to have the codes list too if you can provide them.

Also, how do i find out what code it is spitting out??

to find out what code its spittin out do this. find a blue connector in the area behind your radio, where all kind of wires run through. the blue connector should have two wires running to it, take a paper clip and stick one end in one slot, and the other end in the other slot. basically you are gonna short it. now turn the car on, DONT TURN IT OVER. just to where you see all your lights light up on the dash. now the CEL will flash, if I remember if you get a long flash that means 10, and short flashes mean 1. so for example if it flashes 3 long flashes, and 5 short flashes, the code is 35. lol, i wish i had the list of codes on me i'd give it to you, but thats pretty much how you check what code your car is throwin at you.

I had the same situation. It appeared that the battery had a weak connections. 4WS uses pretty much current while initializing.

So does that mean 4WS equiped cars need a battery with a higher rated "CCA?"

Hmm, don't think so. I have a regular one but had a weak connection. After fixing that the light haven't turned on so far.
