+42 offset on a 5G lude?
I couldn't find anything in search. My friend's looking into some wheels for his 5G. All of them are either 17x7 or 17x7.5 w/ +42 offset. I recommended to him that the 5G ludes should use +45 to +50 offset, but the wheels he likes don't come in that. Would he get any rubbing issues w/ a 7" or 7.5" wide wheel at +42 offset? He's lowered about 1.5-2". Anyone have wheels w/ +42 offset? Can you post experiences and pics? Thanks.
I have 18'x7.5s with a 42 offset no problems. Just remember to shave the plastic tab around the screw in the wheel well that holds the bumper to the rear quarter and you'll be fine. I used to run 17x7 w/ 40 offset and 215/40/17 tires with no problems.
How come you don't have any probs and I rub like crazy with people in the back.. Mines is 43+.... I removed the splash guards inside the rear wheel well and shaved it too.. maybe it has to be shaved more you think?
what kind of suspension are you running and how low have you dropped the car? I have my lude dropped 1.5 inches and have Tien HA's No problem.
At that time I didn't have $ for a full suspension so I just got springs and used my stock shocks.. The shop where I got my rims said something about if I get coilovers, I might not have any room for a camber kit.. What should I do....get coilovers and shocks.. of keep my springs and get shocks... what kind?

Yeah, that sounds like BS. I think they were just trying to make the sale at the moment. You can just get some good shocks like Koni Yellows or Bilstein to go w/ your springs if you're happy w/ them. I personally like coilovers cuz 1) I do tend to adjust height every now and then and 2) most of the full coilovers out there have adjustable compression and rebound, as opposed to konis, kybs, etc. that adjust rebound only. If you don't care about either benefit, then just keep your springs and get some good shocks.
I have 17x7 with a 40 offset (no choice).
It works fine. I had my fenders rolled and rear tab thingy shaved. No rubbing at all. The only time I've heard rubbing was when I made a quick hard u turn...
Of course if I could choose, I would go with a 45 offset (42 the least) or higher...if we're talkin about 17s of course
