check your mechanical timing, sounds like the exhaust might be off a tooth, it could also be the cat clogged

- new spark plugs & wires
- new distributor cap & rotor
- new air/fuel filters
- clean injectors/iacv/egr/fitv
- bleed the coolant
- new pcv
- adjust valves and ignition
- adjust idle from tb's screw and throttle cable
- check does sensors work properly: map, iat and tps (and try calibrating tps)
- then check wires, connectors and hoses

check o2 sensors and vacuum/exhaust leaks (check all the seals - IM/header/TB gaskets, injector seals, maybe even buy valve cover gasket set...)
check timing. after that: double check timing

clogged cat might you give some trouble as well (usually when driving) - check cats condition

if none of these seem to work - do compression and leak tests
and if you have chipped ecu and youre running it just with basemap, it might not work as well than properly tuned one

those are basic maintenance as well.

Hey sorry about the late reply but I’m going to check into it deeper this weekend. To answer some questions the cat is gone but didn’t have this trouble from the previous owner. Stock ecm and I will check the distributor this weekend. The car drove great before I bought it maybe it doesn’t like me I don’t know I did buy it from a good friend so I know the history. I did have an issue with my coolant temp sensor reading erratic there for a min I replace it fixed that issue. But someone I have talked with said there maybe two of them and the location of the second one I do not know if there is one like I said the info y’all give me helps me out. I’m a heavy diesel man by trade cars are just something I play with

This may help some. I checked the distributior this weekend didn’t have any issues cleaned what little residue that was in there. I ran a test with the car and let it idle upon warm up the car isles at 1500rpms and after the warm up cycle the car still idles above a 1000. I am wanting to know all that will control what sends the fuel to the car. I been told the main relay but I have checked that with known good relays and still the same effect. Any help is appreciated

Check your engine coolant temperature senor ECT under your distributor if its bad your car will run crap backfire and sometimes die with out toughing a code .I have had the same problem but wasn't the sensor it self but the female connection and wires going to it, The engine is old so sensors and wires can be worn out. good luck

the sensor with the question mark is the sensor (ECT) you need to check or replace if its the problem but check the connections as well as the wires going to it.
