Winter Storage?
Hey Guys this will be my first winter of owning a bike, and I was wondering if there is anything i should know about storing it during the cold 3-4 month of winter that is coming up really quick. I heard different stories of draining the radiator, gas tank and oil for the winter due to the fact that it messes up different things. IS it true? I have a 2001 yzf600r and i believe it is watercooled and not fuel injected. Does that play a difference? Can I just cover it up and leave on my driveway? I need some help. Its going to get cold up here in a month or so and i want to be prepared. Any suggestions? How do u store it?
If there is still gas in the tank, there is this stuff called "stabil" that is supposed to keep the gas fresh. Also I think you may want to adjust your coolant solution, so it does not freeze.
Stabil works great. Just make sure you run your bike for a bit so it gets into the carbs/lines.
I would suggest putting the bike up on stands. You don't want flat spots to develop on your tires.

Your in MD. You can def get some ridding in every 3-4weeks or so during the winter.
Last winter, which was my first winter, I followed the advice of a guy at Coleman's. Fill the tank to the top to keep as much air out of it that you can. Put it up on stands to prevent flat spots. Battery tender if you have an older battery. I didn't, but it was because I was too lazy to buy one. I'm def getting one before the winter hits.
And most of all, start it up and take it for a spin every 2-4 weeks. At the least, start it up and let it idle for 10 minutes or so.
