filling up the tank
I'm fairly new to my bike (f2), and have never had to switch to the reserve until last night. Since I don't ride that often, I usually hit the gas station after 40 miles or so. Anyways, I was on the freeway last night and started losing power bigtime - switching to the reserve fixed it, but my tripmeter read only 86 miles (reset at the last fillup). Normally I would think my bike was screwed up, but I find that when I fill up the tank the hose stops pumping when the tank isn't full. Is there anyway to bypass the anti-top-off safety of the pump? I always have to jam the nozzle in really far to get the gas to flow, and it shuts off in the middle of the tank. What is a safe level to fill the gas too?

Re: filling up the tank (wyv)
You CAN NOT fill a bike tank with the fuel nozzle inside the tank. You're losing a good 1/4 -1/3 capacity if you do. Pull the nozzle all the way out and fill the tank to the bottom filler rim with the bike on its side stand and you _OFF_ the bike.
You should get ~150 mile range with that bike.

Oh yeah, I remember the last time I was in Kalifornia. The nozzles have vapor recovery on them. You may need to defeat the need for placing the nozzle all the way into the tank somehow. The big cover that gaskets the filler hole has a sender that operates a saftey on the pump trigger.
Maybe you can find a pre-ban gas station

Use your hand to pull back the outer rubber boot. This will by pass the vapor recovery system and allow you to fill your tank without any trouble. You will be able to look down into your tank and see when it gets full. Be careful as you can now splash gas all over your tank. Don't fill it up too fast, and angle the nozzle so that you are aiming to the side and back of the tank. This is usually the best way to stop splash.

Re: filling up the tank (figment)
Well, like I said I don't ride often - get home from work at 7:30pm most days and by then I'm too exhausted to do anything. I learned the hard way not to ride unless my mind is totally clear and fresh. I'll try taking it to a station this Sunday
