For those of you who have touched or dragged knee
How did it feel compared to how you expected it to feel?
I dragged for the first time yesterday and the sensation completely threw me offguard. I was expecting it to be a lot softer for some reason.
How about you guys?

The first time I touched was at GMR. I guess it was a feeling of accomplishment because let's face it.. When you first start off riding, getting your knee down would be a big confidence booster. Even though I know I shouldn't have tried and know that it would somehow eventually touch, it was a good feeling. Sort of like getting your driver's license...or losing your virginity.. lol
By the way.. congrats.

It first time it was louder than I expected. Kinda scared me a little. I know, I'm a pushy.

Ya, I'd agree, dropping your knee to the track is a bit jolting at first. After a few track days you will learn to use your knee as a guage for the amount of lean angle you're working with. Just make sure you're not sacrificing good body positioning so you can drag knee. 'Reaching for it' is something I see a lot...meaning many more people can drag knee if they stick their knee as far out as possible, often using poor body positioning. Concentrate on making your turns and hitting your apexes and it will just happen.

I heard a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and vibration on my right leg. Then I began screaming inside my helmet, parked my bike and took pics when I returned home so I could brag on the internerd to the local squids
It's like sex for the first time. You have seen it in tons of pics, tons of films, heard a couple friends talking about it...then you finally got your turn.

So true. In my last trackday I was posing for pictures.
In my next trackday I will continue to work on my form, the great thing about posing for pics is that you can then see all the horrible mistakes in your form
Oh, and congrats to the OP

Re: For those of you who have touched or dragged knee (hybridreams)
I knew what had happened, and I was really excited. I didn't expect the noise that it made. I thought that part was really cool.
I liked it so much I immediately flipped around and took the same corner again just so I could feel the road grinding against my knee.
Since then I've probably only dragged it 6 or 7 more times, but I loved every one of them.
Oh, and it's only been in right corners. I guess I'm not an ambi turner.

As someone else said, I expected it to be softer. It actually took me a second to figure out that it was my knee dragging, then after I did, I was like " Oh, F'ing awesome!"

my very first time i was in the AFM turn at BW and i just lightly grazed the puck. next lap i really got it down and it was pretty harsh.
the way it feels also depends on the puck and the pavement. dragging knee in the repaved sections of Streets or at pahrump is like dipping your knee on a stick of butter. dragging knee in the skidpad at Streets is like demons trying to rip your knee off.

Oddly enough my first puck scrapage was my right knee. I thought it would have been my left as I feel I turn better going left. But, shortly after I got my right down I got the left down.
SOW baby

Never. I've been riding for less than 2 months, I have a ninja 250 and I only ride on the street. If any part of my body is touching the ground when I'm supposed to be riding I hope there is an ambulance on its way.

i had become so used to grinding hard parts on my hawk that when my knee dragged i didn't even notice. thought i had touched some part of the bike down, so when the session was over i looked over the bike and couldn't find any "new" grind marks on the bike. i looked down at my knee and saw it was the knee puck. ha!
