Default Suzuki Question

I am looking at a 1992 Suzuki GSX-R 1100. The thing is that it has 45,000 miles on it. Im not too familiar with the quality of Suzuki engines, but being that this engine is air-cooled, i am not too sure if the mileage should worry me. Thanks in advance.

I rode a GS1100 92 about 3 weeks ago a friend of my dad's has....the engine was original.....................with 160k miles.

The guy owned it since he bought it. Major components he replaced in the bikes lifetime-clutch basket.

Thats it.

Everything else was regular maintenance.

So as to your question...as long as its been well kept...then yes...go for it.

Even if it hasn't...yes...go for it...its a friggin GS1100 i would kill for one...

(9 out, car tire slick conversion, whoolie bars, launch control, 100 shot, big bore...yadda yadda yadda....dual headlights...blam)

Fact of the matter is a GS1100 is pimptastic ****.

The old air/oil Suzukis are damn near indestructable. Go have a look at the bike, hear it run, ride it if possible, and decide from there.

they have oil cooling... just like a B series honda.

There is some debate on the better head, Suzuki's poly-spherical or hemispherical chambers, but rest assured... they "SEEM" bullet proof.

Well, i purchased the bike. It seems to run well. It looks... well it looks like a 16 year old bike. The front fork seal is leaking and throwing oil on my discs. Ive never done that level of maintinence before so it will be an adventure. Any tips?

For that particular bike, your best bet is to find your answer at http://www.gixxer.com.

Try to find a repair manual for that model bike, you will find a lot of useful information in repair manuals. Make sure you have all of the tools lined up ahead of time, and all of the parts/seals to rebuild the forks. Get some fresh fork oil and a couple of buddies to help out and keep you company (or not). Find a way to securely hold the front end while you remove the fork tubes and do your deed, then put it all back together.
