Default New guy quick question...

Hi everybody im new to the forum and i want to say hello to everybody. I just have one question. First time i rode a bike was a r6 yamaha for about a month back when i was 15. I just sold my honda rebel that i used for practice, learning to ride. I had that bike for about a year and now im 19 im thinking of buying an cbr600. My question is am i ready for a 600cc bike? I just want to hear other people's thoughts. Thanks

There isn't a right answer to that question. How many miles did you put on the Rebel? Did you rode it a lot or just ocasionally?

Only you will know when you're ready for a 600cc, and it's not when you "get bored" of the lack of power, but when you feel you have riden many miles in all kinds of situations, where you have some actual experience.

It depends a lot on the rider. Not everyone is the same.

PS: Welcome to the forum man

Here's 21 pages of Honda-Tech thoughts:

Only you know if you are ready (can handle) a 600cc. If your responsible and don't think you are invincible, then sure get a 600 if you want. You've ridden one before so you know they "can" be fast when you open them up.

Um i put about 1500 miles on the rebel. I do drive fast ocasionally but i do drive safe. Im aware of what a 600cc bike can do because i drove a few to try them out. Its just that i sold the rebel my friends already bought a bunch a 600's i just feel like riding again but not sure if i should go 600cc yet.

Man, no offense but 1500 in a year is NOTHING. I put near that in only my first month of having my CB400 haha.

IMO, I would buy something like a GS500F, EX500...or even a SV650 or Ninja650. You have very little miles under you belt, if I was you I would look into some of the bikes I mentioned to you, they will be a lot peppier than the Rebel, but still tame compared to a I4 Racing Replica 600.

And it doesn't matter what your friends have...in my riding group we have all kinds of bikes, and we don't care, we just ride each one at their own pace, if they don't wait for you they aren't your friends

Ya 1500 is nothing within the past year and a half i put 5500 on my first bike the katana, then 2500 on the harley, then 5000 on the busa Riding is pure sex and yea dont just follow the crowd. i ride a sportbike and ride with guys that have cruisers it doesnt really matter cuz we are here for one thing love of riding... its all about what bike ur comfortable on... Im comfortable on a busa and know im not invincible but not everyone can handle a busa. sit on them and ride them. sv650 or cbrf4i are good choices or even the katana great to get comfortable on...

Most people our age (im still a youngin) think we drive safe. We all make dumb decisions. Here's something to read over, it'll make you think:

After reading a few of the OPs posts... read this:

Sad story, kid thought he was in control, and in a safe environment, but **** happens, regardless of how fast you are going or where at. The faster the vehicle you buy, the higher the probability you'll drive fast.

good god that was terrible, I know how that kid was not that I had an M5(or anything close) but a vehicle that could hit excessive speeds and I did it more than once i'm ashamed to say. Thought it wasn't a big deal then, but god as I get older....

I started riding when I was 17 on a Ninja 250, put 3-4k on it in a few months and sold it for $400 more than I bought it for, and got a F4i.

If you haven't, take the MSF course. I can see that you know how to ride, but the MSF course teaches you things you probably don't know, and you get a discount on your insurance.

Then decide for yourself.

There was a similar situation on either R6MN or R6forum... guy went around the forum making it very clear he wanted to go fast, then just dissapeared... guys on the forum found out he died in a bike accident
