Default Motorcycle wave?

So, i've only been riding for about 2 weeks and I've noticed that nearly every other person on a bike that rides past fives me the same wave. Am I now part of some super elite biking mafia?

Isn't that cool? Don't expect a wave from the Harley's, so don't bother waving. They are too busy going deaf while their machine literally vibrates themselves apart....

Most sport bike guys will wave. Harley people rarely.

you wanna seee something kewl... I saw a couple guys get into a fight.. a guy in a car almost hit the bike guy.. bike guy flipped him off (parked) and the car dude got out of his car and wanted to throw down... little did he realize that he was in front of about 200 sportbike/harley riders.. needless to say about 40 guys left their seats to run to the aid of the sportbike rider... the dude ran to his car and drove away as fast as he could!!!!

nothing like being part of a club and not having to pay memebership, and have people covering your back should it come down to it...

I always just figured that we are part of a brotherhood. It in many ways is us against them out there. You always have to watch out for cars, though it may not be intentional, you have to always assume they are going hurt you.

I have been riding on the street, I still enjoy the wave. The problem I have is when I get back into my car and I start to wave as a bike goes by.

Mike how are you liking your bike? Do you still have the perma-grin?

Mike, your a new part of an elite group of people....motorcycle riders. Membership in this fraternity is easily granted, and you can count on any rider as a friend (Hardley Driveable riders don't count though, they are only in it for the image, not the ride). if you are ever in trouble, if you have a flat, if something breaks, motorcyclists will stop to help you. if you park your bike somewhere, and more motorcyclists arrive, expect them to park next to you. if you meet another rider anywhere, expect to stop and chat for a while. some of the best people on the road are motorcyclists. motorcyclists are more in tune with their environment, and more aware of what goes on on the road. do not trust anyone in a car, and assume their intent is malicious. whenever i see another motorcyclist on the road, i wave. car drivers never do that. they look at someone else and think "i bet i can beat them". motorcycilsts have an entirely different mentality, and that is what makes them better. sure, call me arrogant, or just mean. when i ride, cars are totally rude to me. i get cut off, people try to run me off the road, i get tailgated more often on a bike, or people crowd me. our society is extremely biased against motorcycles, and it hurts. that's why it's nice to be able to depend on other motorcyclists. yes, you are part of an elite group of people, a sort of club. just this weekend i was out riding in the shenandoah valley, and i pulled over at a diner. while i was sitting there at the bar w/my coffee, some other motorcyclists arrived (an R1 and a gixxer). they parked next to me, then found me and sat next to me at the bar. conversation rose instantly. we were talking like old friends in just 5 minutes! it was one of the most beautiful things in the world. while we sat there, a guy and his g/f arrived on a CBR929RR (i think that's what it's called). they sat with us too. it was a wonderful feeling. you are now part of this group. if you could see me now, i would be giving you the wave.

p.s. while we were at the diner, some Hardley driveable guy's pulled up. they eyed our bikes suspiciously, then parked at the opposite end of the parking lot. they walked over to our bikes and i could tell they were laughing. they sat at a booth in the corner, and kept looking over at us, and pointing, occasionally laughing. they sat unched over, peering over their shoulders. since we sat and talked for a while, they left before us. the five of us decided to ride as a group for a little while, and we caught up the the H/D guys in 15 min. we passed them in a turn, dragging our knees. i'd love to see someone do that on a Harley!

Save the wave! Vette owners actually wave to each other as well.

People wave to others in Jeeps too... remember that when I had mine. Its pretty cool... I remember the first time I went out riding, and 3 others sportbikes were at the front of the line ahead of me... staring back, what I assumed to be them looking to see if they knew me. They just wanted me to catch up with them @ the light and say whats up. Pretty cool.. I felt like such a moron..

I've also heard that Aston Martin drivers will wave, but they don't stop at that. they will both pull over and talk. i have seen it happen. a DB5 and a mid-eighties Vantage, each on the shoulder of 66.

Default no waves from Harley riders (or SCOOTERS!)

has anyone tried waving at a scooter? (hey, we're all on two-wheels, right?) i've done it 4 times, and not once did one wave back. i've had one harley rider wave too me, but i think he was signaling a cop ahead.

well said. in the bay area, i'd say that 7/10 riders wave to each other (not including the H/D's). the 3 that dont wave are usually the punk hooligans, complete with cut off shirts, baggy jeans, and rags on their heads.

I wave to Harley guys as well as sport bike and cruiser guys. Not all Harley guys are Rice boys (in a twisted sense). I think they just think guys on sport bikes are wreckless. Being a wreckless Harley guy is kinda difficult anyways right ? But either way, I try to wave to everyone. Plus, I've had Harley guys wave at me and i didnt wave back cause i didnt think they were gonna wave, then i felt bad for the next mile or so and not concentrating on my riding. hehe. Either way, Harley guys arent as big and tough as they make themselves out to be.

Hey you guys...nope, don't have a bike, I'm only 5'1"! But I LOVE to ride on the back. I actually owned a Honda Odessy for awhile...sort of a high powered go-cart for dirt trails. Had to sell it because the darn thing seemed to need parts everytime I brought it back home. That Odessy would go up to 55MPH in the straight away! I remember some guys looking at us (me and my boyfriend had a set...ah how cute) and gawking when I had just finished jumping the cart over a burm about 5 feet in the air. Then they stared even more when I whipped off my full face helmut and my long blond hair came loose! Yeah, if they ever redesigned them, I would be the first to buy a brand new one.
BTW, Crex, you are an absolute cutie!

Well, I'm fast but not THAT fast...c'mon, just think of the beautiful weather in CA!
And BigDaddy...maybe someday I'll get a bike, but right now I'd rather spend my extra cash on my baby! (car not kid)

hehe. I have that problem too. Parts for 929? or parts for ITR? Or save for NSX? Damn the market has to kick into gear again so i can get back to doing all.

Go for it when your ready. Any shop can customize the suspension for ya. And any bike is fast, even Harleys. Remember you have 40(harley V-Twin)-100(600 sportbike) HP puxhing about 500 LBS. Vs 165-200HP pushing/pulling 2600LBS. Big difference

I wouldn't go braggin too much about your 700cc bike having 81 hp, since the new F4i has just under 100WHP.
