I am thinking about getting a bike and wondering if i should start off on a dirtbike and move to a bigger bike OR should i just start off on a small 250-600cc bike? What did you guys start off on and what do you think i should do?

I grew up on a ranch and my little brother had dirtbikes. I got hooked when he let me try his XR80 out. I started out on a 250 single cylinder Yamaha and have worked my way up over the years.

Used to have a 50cc dirtbike back in the days and i have wanted a bike ever since. A few years ago i chipped in and bought an ex500 for really cheap...been hooked ever since

if you can balance decent, have some control, dont panic alot and have common sence. then you can ride anything once you get on it.

I started off on dirt bikes when i was 12 but my friend started out on a 96 zx7 and took the msf course and he does pretty good. You just got to respect the bike and dont be stupid

My good buddy got a 954 for graduation, then I got a great deal on the one that his dad had purchased. I had a little bit of experience with ATV's and Dirtbikes, but this is my first serious attempt at sportbikes. Next year...MotoGP.

Just recently bought my first bike. XR250. I wouldn't want to learn on the street. So far I've had a lot of fun with it except the whole crashing and breaking my wrist deal

went to the local dealership and got a great deal on a used '03 yamaha yzf600r
my msf course was scheduled for a month later and i couldn't resist so i ended up teaching myself. should've taken the msf course before even thinking about buying a bike cuz i ended up dropping it a couple times.

My story rided my friends '95 600f3 here and there then couple years later jsut wanted one and got an 954 ..just love the speed and grew on me

started riding dirtbikes when i was pretty young and i think it helped me with riding a street bike a lot. It just sorta feels natural now to be on 2 wheels.

when i get back to the states...i plan on getting off the plane, goin straight to the DMV, get a permit, then straight to the dealership...then take the soonest riders safety course i can get into...

My then (4yrs ago) 45yr old father was looking at Harleys and decided "he's too young, he's gonna get a 929rr"... so when he bought that I told him I'd have to get an F4 for him to have someone to ride with... a yr later I traded the F4 in on an F4i

Bump started a 'dead' rebel 250 that was left in our garage after walking home from school. Picked it up right off the bat. Matter of fact I probably ride just as well today as I did that day. Ah the good ole days. I can remember chasing down a friend who was on his bicycle. I had another kid on the back of the rebel with an m16 BBgun trying to nail the guy on the mountain bike. Fun times.
