How in the world do I go about buying boots? Is there a certain brand to look for or can I be a sap and buy A* because my favorite pros ride them?

Buy construction and quality, not looks...

you can pretty much go by your shoe size. or go to your local bike shop and try on a few different ones. the salesmen there should be helpful and fairly knowledgeable. imo the good reasonably priced boots are from A*, sidi, and tcx (what used to be Oxtar)

Try on SEVERAL different boots, even ones from the same manufacturer. Some boots are a bit wider. Sidis are comparatively thin.
