2002 Yamaha R1 or Honda S2000
My wife and I had a talk about getting a used S2K and she gave me an option.
I can keep my 02 R1 or sell it and get a used Honda S2000. Ive wanted an S2k since it came out in 2000 but just couldnt afforded it. Ive saved some cash but need to sell my 02 R1 to have enough to buy the S2k cash and the wify doesnt want to finance the S2k. Should i stick to my R1 or get the S2K. Ive been thinking about this for 2-3 weeks now and still cant decide. my friends are half for S2K and half keep the bike. what do you guys think.

?
There's always a latest and greatest for everything. New mustang anyone?
In any event, they are two different type of vehicles. Would the S2000 be a purely recreational vehicle or a daily driver. I think that makes a huge difference.

Yup, this one is tough. I personally can't live w/o a bike. In the winter months I can do without one, but during the rest of the year, I FEEN to ride like a crackhead who needs a hit. Especially those "perfect weather" days when you drive around in your car wishing you were riding.
The S2K is a great/fun car to have, and that's what makes the decision tough. If you plan on saving up for another bike, then go for it. But if getting another bike doesn't seem likely in the near future, then I wouldn't do it. YOU WILL MISS RIDING!!!
BTW: Get one with a hardtop.

You'll definately miss riding. Everyone I know that got rid of the bike "for a while" missed it right away. The people I know that didnt miss riding were never really into it. They just saw it as a toy to ride around every now and then.

Re: 2002 Yamaha R1 or Honda S2000 (trbo823)
well
since i own both a gixxer and a s2000, heres my insight.
dont sell your bike, but buy the s2000. figure out a way so you can afford both.
I absolutely love my s2000, the average driver will never know the ability of an s2000, however i still often have the urge to jump on the bike, two totally different experiences.

Sell the bike, buy the S and grab a used bike in time for the season. If youll never have a bike again, DO NOT SELL IT. those beautiful days your driving top down and oh **** whats that, people riding...dammnit why did i sell the bike.

My vote goes for S2k
I really have no urge to ride on the street anymore and track bikes are pretty cheap. If I had a chance to trade my street bike for an S2K I wouldnt hesitate. Then find another track bike.

i'm with you on that one. i'm not the best rider but i'm beginning to think doing novice/beginner track days are safer than riding around on the street. every day i go out for a couple hours; there isn't a time where a cager hasn't come too close. today it was an lx470 who was sliding on wet pavement towards me.
oh, get the car. bikes are dime a dozen. i've thought many times about using whatever i could get out of my bike as a downpayment on a car.

Re: (Reckless636)
I was thinking about this myself as far as saving up for one. Getting a bike or a sports car. One point that several bikers I know have made is that you can use the car a lot more conviently. Drive it to the store, work, for a fun drive. With the bike you probably only ride it for leisure and never to work. A car you can enjoy 24/7. Not to mention the car is safer on the street due to the number of idiots out there.

Re: (96 SOHC VTEC)
Now this is a hard one? I wrecked back in July an donly rode 4-5 times for quick rides "5 min" and let me tell you it was like getting your dick wet but then getting shut down after you enter. I see all my friends riding on nice days and just watch them ride by and give me the rev limiter." Damn I love that sound" And it just kills me. I will be riding by spring but my wheels are hard to find used. Anyways I have also love the S2K but if you can keep them both then do it or if you can get a used one just to ride later then do it but if your not going to get one FORGET it you'll go INSANE trust me I was told the same thing and I'm going insane now.
Good luck and yes get the hardtop

Re: (dan_w_82)
If it were me I'd keep the R1. I love riding and the exhiliration would be exponentially higher on the R1 than an S2K. But you could always get the S2, and get an older project bike that would be just as fast and fun for cheaper(929?).

My vote goes to the S2K since I don't care for R1's.
Actually I thought about doing something similar, but I don't know if I could get rid of my bike... Even though I have two of them.

Keep the bike, get the Stook and... sell the wife....
seriously, keep the bike... if available, get a friend to lend you a stook for a few days, then you may realize, it might not as "cool" as you think it is.... at least that's how I found it.
bike all the waaaay.

Ya, im leaning towards keeping the bike and just wait a little bit more and maybe i can save up enough to be able to keep both.
