Porsche's deal with VW had to do with the upcoming emissions regulations that determine an "average" fuel consumption rating that any manufacturer is allowed to have. By doing the deal with VW, with all their fuel friendly models, it reduced the "average" fuel consumption rating of Porsche allowing them to continue producing and high fuel consuming super cars.

Porsche figured it's better to compromise in regards to profit sharing then compromise on the way they build cars.

I like the look of the Mugen kitted version, if they released an SIR or Type R variant with a 200 bhp engine and 6 speed manual box I'd look to go and order one.
