OK, I finally removed the starter bolt on the top but the starter isn't budging. The bottom has what look like a pin. There's no bolt on it. What am I missing? This is a much bigger job than I anticipated.
Okay the starter is in but boy would a pain in the butt you have to remove so many things and you have to keep track of everything. The outside Bolt was really stuck I had to put a pribar on it and then it just barely cracked just a millimeter and then I had to do that a couple more times to finally get it loose if it were just a little bit tighter I would not have been able to do it Because there's barely any room to get a wrench in there. . The YouTube videos on this job are pretty much worthless I. Tomorrow I'm gonna go out and reinstall the intake manifold and hopefully everything will work properly. Thanks for your help
O k... it's back together but surging badly. Vacuum leak? I checked the hoses. I don't see anything amiss. I will spray some gas around the intake tomorrow.
I sprayed starting fluid over the intake gaskets and no change in the throbbing Idle. It goes up to 2Krpm then back down rhythmically. Could I have accidentally altered the throttle intake or throttle position sensor?
I'm going to put my scanner on it later today but could use some advice.
thanks
I just re-checked for your model year. 2007-08 Fit only had an IAT sensor. So, no MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor on your model year. The model years after had a combo MAF/IAT sensor.
So do you recommend just replacing the IAT? It was working fine before I took it apart to change the starter... should I get the codes while it's running or with the ignition on? I'm thinking that the plug isn't making good connection but I wiggled it and no change.
THANKS
I'm getting two errors.
#1. "Intake air temp sensor, high
#2. Evap system leak test failed.
I'm not too concerned about the Evap error but the IAT sensor may have been damaged when I removed the plug. It was working fine until I replaced the starter.

I replaced the IAT sensor and left it out of the airbox and it idled at 2000 rpm but steady. So I plugged it into the airbox and it did the exact same thing, rhythmically idling down and up. I'm out of ideas.
OK... it's starting and idling well. I took the manifold off again and reinstalled. I also replaced a 1/4" radiator hose that cracked and another 1/4" vacuum hose. I noticed that the engine was making a little more noise than normal and then it dawned on me that I forgot that I had to remove the oil filter to do the job and didn't top-off the oil! holy sweet mother of, Jesus! I remembered to replace the coolant but totally forgot about the oil !!! I'm getting some error codes which I will deal with at another time.
THANKS for all your help.
