Default Offset Question

This past weekend I purchased an '08 VBP Sport. Since then, I have been searching about the lowest possible offset you can run without rolling the fenders. I have found some info but none pertaining exclusively to the Fit. I would like something that's pretty flush with the fender. I will also be running the Tanabe DF or GF series springs.

My main concerns are scraping and rubbing (like most people). My ideal situation would be to be able to drive around without having to dodge every single pot hole/speed bump and still be able to get up my drive way. I know that I will have to do some manuvering, but I just don't want to do it all the time. This might be an oxymoron.

I'm not against spacers though...will I have to roll the fender then? I'm not totally against rolling the fender either. I just want to see how much I can do without having to. Also, what series tire do you recommend? I don't want to stretch too much (if at all).

So if there is a link with all this info please let me know. I'm sure that this topic has been covered before. I'm coming the Subaru scene and I know everything there is to know about those wheels but this is new territory for me.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Honda forums buddy. Sooner or later you will find that this isn't new territory, in fact it is still the same for any car on the matter of offset, clearance, and fender issues.

You won't need to roll your fenders unless you have a wide setup. Anytime when dropping past 1.5 inches and using 225 tires with these offsets...something from widths of x7 +22 onward to x8 +35...or any time you want to use flush setups of wheels.

If you do rub then it is minor, the fender liner in front and part of the bumper retainer tab in rear. These are all easy fix by trimming the plastic parts off and bending some tabs back. Or you may pull fender for more clearance.

The ground clearance issue is dependent on the road conditions in your area. For my area, it is at least 6 inches to clear everything comfortably. I can drive up driveways, speed bumps, dips, roadkills (kidding)....with ease...no need for maneuvers.

Thanks for the info man. I know that offsets and the like are universal, I was just referring to this model. I just need to do more researching.

Thanks!

No worries buddy. It's both. Trim any plastic that contacts the tires under the fender and rubbing issues will be resolved. That's the better way to 'deal with it'.

I feel that the less rub there is the better for self and other societal factors. How would you feel when you rub on a driveway to a restaurant? Fancy or not, people will laugh on the inside and assume other various thoughts. There are countless other situations...though first thought would be...who cares what others think right? Not exactly, most adults will assume 'immature' for rubs. Go ask anyone: old muscle tuners...even the classic guys.

Modifying cars is a passion not a sport. The sport is autocross and track/circuit racing...and for the most of america...drag.

I thought I would cause my mum's Fit to rub like no tomorrow...17x8 +40F / +35R with 225/40. I asked for her feedback and she says NONE. I was surprised...because I made it rub when I drove it quite aggressively to TEST it around the neighborhood. I only managed to make the rears rub slight. I have already trim the center of the front liner and bent the fender tab back. The rears were trimmed at the bumper retainer tab. It is only lower 1.2"F / 1"R...some food for thought.

I definitely don't want to rub. I came from a car that was riddled with little annoyances so I want this car to be as pain free as possible.

I was thinking about doing Rota GT3's (15 X 7 +40) with the GF210's. I think I should be ok there. What series tire would be good for this? 205/50/15?

That would be grand.

Raise the front up and find the areas where the tires has been rubbing. Trim off any plastic fender lining to satisfy your needs. Bend the tabs back if you need further rub prevention.

Sweet! Tires are still a little ways away but that's good info to know.
