2010 CR-V : Oil Completely Gone After 2,300 Miles
The story:
Took my 2010 Honda CRV in for the "Oil Consumption Test" at the dealership after I received a letter explaining the extended warranty due to sticking piston rings.
They changed the oil, I came back 1,000 miles later, they said there was no consumption problem. They told me I had a few oil leaks that did not need to be repaired immediately, but they offered to do it. I told them no thanks. They then changed the oil again and sent me on my way, telling me to come back in 1,000 miles if I wanted to do the consumption test again.
I forgot to bring it in after 1,000 miles. After 2,300 miles since the oil change, my CRV ran out of oil. I was driving and the engine made a terrible grinding noise and the oil light flashed. I got the car back home, but the oil light flashed again on the way and the engine made the same terrible grinding noise.
I checked and there was no oil on the dipstick. I called Honda and they told me I could bring it back in for another oil change and then do the 1000 mile "Oil Consumption Test" again.
The only other symptom I have noticed is that occasionally when I start the car , it makes that same terrible grinding sound for about 2 seconds. I googled and found people saying that it was the "VTC" actuator (http://www.civicx.com/threads/my-engine-makes-a-grinding-noise-upon-startup-whats-going-on.4978/). So I have mostly ignored this sound, especially because it only happens 50% of start-ups.
What should I do? Try to find a good mechanic and have them evaluate? I am hesitant to trust the dealer. Should I just do the "Oil Consumption Test" again?
Feeling confused and frustrated!

well since honda seems to be willing to do the extended warranty thing for you, cross your fingers and keep going to the dealer.
but honestly, how do you run out of oil?? do you really go that long without checking your oil?
