That air arc looks like a complete mess! Obviously it turned out fine, but I'm curious how that thing looked step by step.
Does it create much heat?

Yes, a lot of heat. It is just like welding, so you HAVE to have the skill set to use it. It is very easy to eat away at the underlying metal. I am a Millwright Welder by trade; I do this almost every day at work. So for me, it is not a problem.

Re: Write-Up: DIY Front Wheel Bearing Replacement
hey guys, i noticed when i pulled my hub off, the back side of it had a ring around the inside of the hub. Not touching the bearing but outside of it. On the 2nd to last picture, step 10, on this write up, I noticed its not there. Is it bad if you dont have it. I tried to find a diagram of it, but no honda service manual or Alldata has a picture of it.

It is a protective cover. The problem is if you do not remove it when you have a B-series swap the axles will bind when you tighten up the axle nut. You will be fine if you pop them off and run with out them.

Not necessarily better, just 90% of the time the axles will bind if you don't remove it and you have a B-swapped car (obviously because the axle's cup ends are larger).

I need help on this..... my wheel bearing is so bad the inner race near the axle is actually split in half. 0.o!!!! now since the inner race is pretty much messed up, the outer race is stuck inside the knuckle...... is there a way to get the outer race off the knuckle? the inner race is pretty much off the bearing assembly, there is nothing to hit to get it out. Please help! i need my car to get running again by tomorrow.

I know this thread hasn't been touched in awhile, but it helped me a whole hell of a lot today since I don't have a press and all the shops were closed! It's still a pain and took most of my day, but it got the job done needless to say with out a press! Kudos to the guy who took the time to write this!

Had to say..... very handy writeup. about the inner racers..... the grinder is gotta be the easiest way to go about removeing it from the hub. Took a only 10 minutes max..... you really dont need to cut all the way through. Just paper thin. the heat from the grinder helps a ton. then just use a prybar to crack it loose.
Very handy writeup

I did this and the inner race did not turn blue/purple when you get close to the hub!
I looked very carefully and didn't notice any difference until I felt like I cut too much. Got a small gouge on the hub now, will this affect anything?
I ended up using a small screwdriver and using it with a hammer at the place where hub and inner race meet...it pushed it out enough to get a slide hammer on and got it off.

I know i'm bumping from the grave, but this IS a great writeup. Got quoted $100 to transfer wheelbearings from 1 spindle to another, I'm thinking about simply doing it myself in one go. Saves me $100!

It's not bad to bump Write-Ups because it helps people find things they are too lazy to search for.
As far as your problem - you can't just "swap bearings" due to the snap ring. This is why the inner race comes out when you hit the hub out. Read the entire write-up and if you still need help just post up and I will try to the best I can.
