of course!! SOHC Owns you. i choose sohc because everyones got a B series and i think it would be a good experiment to see what someone could squeeze out of a D. so thats why im sticking with the a6. im gonna see what it can produce and im going to kill some b series cars like nothing.......hopefully

d15b1s only existed in the civic standards. dx's had d15b2s si's had d16a6s.
88 d15b1s had the highest compression of any d series motor in the usdm 4th gens (9.6:1) all other year stds and dx had 9.2:1 and the d16a6s have 9.1:1. if you want a d15b1 get an 88.

also when you do a mpfi swap and cant get a d16z6 manifold (which i think sucks) or a d16y8 manifold, get the d16a6 from the civic hatchs. the crx si manifolds (still considered a d16a6) are tiny lil buggers.

well with a twin cam the valvetrain would be lighter allowing for higher rpms. Does this mean they will make more power on a street application? no. Should you go about spending thousands on your d15 just to get to the level of a ZC motor? no.

I just bought an 88 std and will be doling out the 700 for the parts to do a ZC swap. But if I had a d16 would I? no. Because for 700 bucks you can modify an SI motor to produce the same level of power and slightly more tq. But you will need to do your own labor.
in theroy.

each parts of the valve train may be lighter however youhave 2 cams and aprox twice the roational mass (lil less) rpms are primarily dictated on valvetrain strength and berring strength as well as heat. and i havent lost to a zc yet and havent spent 700 on performance ****

I like the SOHC because of the weight issues. SOHC is quite a bit lighter and I find this favourable for autox. I staying with mine because it works great in autox, if I was building a drag car, then a DOHC is the only way to go....

SOHC power is all I got to say. I would take my SOHC over a B16 any day. I like to be different.

slowman EF, which IC did you end up with? I'm ordering a custom one tomorrow hopefully from a guy on here.

if you're not poor then about the only thing the sohc has going for it is that its meant to be there meaning you can use factory mounts

b series means a trans in mystery condition, a makeshift shift linkage, etc
but at the same time b series has sooooooooooo many advantages.

your not going to get bigger than 1.7 on a d series where as b series can go what like 2.2 if you stroke it. b series has a lot more tranny options. the worst geared b trans is as good as the best geared d trans. also the b series driveline will take a lot more power before things break and you can actually find an oem lsd trans
bigger bore and better head desings mean better flow. b series motors like to rev a lot more than a d.

for the people with mpfi'd D15's (i can talk because i have one) your car may be faster than stock but honestly, its still brutally slow
a built n/a D16 can hang with a B16 but with the same amount of work into it the B16 will kill it
same for a turbo D16, sure it can be quick but a turbo B16 will kill it with the mods being equal

and when you step up to 1.8 or 2.0 well its no contest

nothing wrong with a d but a b will always be faster with the same work into it

about how much lighter would a sohc be compared to a dohc? i know that there are tons of diff engines, but about the range, like say a d16a8 compared to the zc, or somethin that have comparable specs.
