7900

!!!!NO!!!!

This is why we keep hearing stories of why ZCs are garbage and shouldnt be swapped. Because people grab teg ECUs and try and run 7800/7900 red lines.

This is wrong.

ZC CRX is correct in posting that the red line of the ZC is a straight 7200. If you value your motor and want to keep it for more than 8 to 10 months you will never go past that point.

On top of that theres no point anyone with a ZC should ever run to 7200. Why? Max power on a healthy ZC is produced at 6800.

If your in a race environment keep it between max lbs/ft and max HP. Unless your downshifting. And you better be pretty darn good to kick your RPMs up from revolutions that are already high into a 400 rpm wide range.

Now, ive come off pretty strongly only because its what ive seen from one technitian as well as my own personal experiance accidentaly letting my RPMs go above that on two occasions I was trying to downshift. The motor was never the same after I did. Diffirent characteristics each time.

If im wrong however im more than willing to admit it and let you show me the correct tech.

So what does everyone agree on, 7200 redline and 7900 rev limiter for dohc ZC w/ 89 teg ecu?

The DOHC ZC redline is 7200. Its peak power is at 6800. Reving the ZC past 7200 will cause damage to the engine. The ZC ECU and the 88-89 Teg ECU will not rev past 7200.

ZC rev limit is 7200rpm (fuel cut 7300rpm) tach shows about 7400-7600rpm (its off +-200-400rpm)

integra is around 7400 rev limit and fuel cut @ 7500rpm (stock tach shows 7800-7900rpm)

90-1 ZC PM7 ecus were slightly more aggressive then the previous 88-9.

90-1 can be chipped to PM7 specs very easily.

Yes. This is much more detailed and right on. I use an Apexi SAFC. It can be set to store your rev points. My highest point reved with an 89 Teg ECU was 7483RPM.

My PG7 would fuel cut at 7800, the "red line" for a DOHC ZC is supposed to be at 7200. Now if you were running the PM6 (Si) ECU the fuel cut off is 7200. I am Very positive you can take the PG7 past 7200.

I think the main point to take away here is regardless of what ECU your using if your running a ZC motor dont take it past 7200 regardless, unless you have upgraded bearings an cams and a few other itelms I cant think of at the moment.

what can be done to rev past 7200 safely...

I'm getting crower cams for mine and I know I can make power past 6800 wiht the cams and JG cam gears but will the rest of the head and block take it with just the cams???

I'm just guessing that I will be able to make power till 7300 or so (I haven't sent the cams in to crower to get specs and recommendations on lift and duration yet) but I'm guessing I'll have a 7500 redline with power up to 7300.....what do I need to do this safely thanks....

hehe i used to have a Zdyne ZC conversion ECU on my ZC and it's rev limit was set at 8500 (don't ask why). and i've gotten pissed in traffic and just sat there with my fat foot on the gas and watched the tach go straight to 8 and sit there for a second till i let off. i didn't care about my motor at that point. but it's always been fine after that.

i'd go to at least 8000 all the time with that ecu with obviously no long term effect. maybe i'm lucky. i know it's pointless to go that high, but i was running a straight 2.25" exhaust w/no muffler and i thought i was cool.

THANK YOU! Someone who finally realizes what ZC's are all about.
