Default What kind of struts and springs for EF civic?

I want to get some lowering springs and struts for my 91 civic hatch. Does anyone have any advice on which ones are the best? Also, I want to get sway bars for the car, now will i have to swap control arms? Since my civic is a standard model and does not have any sway bars on it.

I have tokico illumina set. (it came with tokico lowering springs)

At first, I noticed that it doesn't really lower the car at all. It lowers the car very slightly. However if you have a B16 or heavier motor, the front will sit lower.

As for performance, I think it is very good. Since the spring rates were meant for the shocks, it is a very good drive.

Now that I've had this setup for about a year, the springs "settled" more, so now the fronts have about 1 finger gap, and the rear has about 2 finger gap.

I like the fact that I can adjust the dampening of the shocks. Right now I ride with 4/5 front and rear. A bit stiff for the streets but I like the feel.

If you want to "SLAM" your car, this kit is not the right choice. You may be able to use the shocks, but the springs won't lower it enough.

I hope that helps

H&R sports are great for street apps.

Buy whatever you want. If you want it "slizzammed y0!" buy some short-stroke coilovers and try to maximize suspension travel. If you want it to handle good, buy some Koni Race dampers and GC coilovers with whatever rates you want. If you want it to ride good, leave it stock. If you want bling, buy something green.

I personally use GC coilovers with 500f/600r rates and Koni Sport dampers on my ED9 track car. It doesn't ride pleasant, I don't anticipate the dampers lasting long, I wish it had more travel, and it could handle better. However this is the best setup for my needs that I can afford.

- Targa, who wonders why people modify the suspension on daily driven cars to begin with.

My reason: My stock suspension was GONE. All four shocks blown (300,000 kms + on the car). And the Tokico Kit was cheaper than buying new OEM struts.

Also, I think everyone here agrees that suspension mods are one of the best mods you can do to your car.... for it to perform well, AND for appearance.

Ive got the tokico blues with sportline springs, I love the ride. I say go with tokico's with a good set of non ajustable springs perferable dual rate. just dont buy some off brand coil overs that will make your car bounce around like a ricer!
