What can I do to make my B16 CRX faster?
I just finished my swap 2 weeks ago, last night I decided to go out to some of the races, it seemed as if my car coudln't run with most of the guys out there, I was kinda pissed that my crx was slow compared to some of the cars out there
What can I do to make my car faster?
I know there are tons of stuff available for the B16, but what should I do first? what would give me noticible gains?
I do not want to go forced induction yet, or nitrous at all, But what can i do to bump up the power of my motor

Slow compared to what?? I have a 91 HF with a B16, and do very well when compared to other N/A imports in my immediate area. Have you run it at the track yet? Do you have any #'s of your setup?

I was gonna say the same thing, did you ever check your compression and did you tune the engine properly ?

Re: What can I do to make my B16 CRX faster? (90blackcrx)
Well I ran a white nissan sentra SE-R Spec V and he beat me by a car or 2 and I have since taken the speakers out of the car, so that weight isn't an issue
I was thinking about getting new cams and intake manifold, would that help?
How do i "tune" the engine, i set the timing properly, and adjusted all the sensors, what else should i check for?

A local dyno.. tune-tune-tune.
but may as well buy some adj. cam gears and some nice cams while you are on the way to the dyno.

It may not be the car. Go to the track and get some times.
If you're having bad 60' times then that would be a big contributor to your recent downfalls at the races.

What size rims are those? How much do they weigh? Also like sappsycho said, your 60' times are key.

Stickier tires, raise compression, weight reduction.
You dont want to spend a lot of money but you want noticable gains, i dont think those 2 things can be said together.

Yea, and it doesn't matter with ET, but your reaction times will matter in a heads up race. Those fractions of a second can mean alot when a race is close.

Re: What can I do to make my B16 CRX faster? (90blackcrx)
actually the new nissans arent to shabby, with an intake and header i witnessed one putting down a 14.5 at ennis.
heres my thing and im not sure if its related, my b16a is slow as ****, i was talking to a freind and he narrowed my problem down to my ecu and my o2 sensors, im only running one o2 sensor, and have 2 wires tapped into the sensor, he was explaining to me that if i do this 2 of the cylinders will be running 50% richer and the other 2 cylinders will be running 50% leaner, because the computer cant interpret the 2 signals. it makes a lot of since, so far the best i can put down is a 15.0 and i have enough mods to be pushing low 14's
im hoping to switch to a zdyne ecu in the next week, change my wiring back to stock and see if thats what my problem is.

Re: What can I do to make my B16 CRX faster? (slowpokesi)
well, for what it's worth
the nissan was a white SE-r spec V, and from what i saw, i think he just had exhaust and intake, he pulled about a car on me
I also raced my buddies 2003 porsche carrera 4 with 19's, I pulled on him in the first gear roll, but he caught up and past me like i was standing still
what could cause my B16 to be under powered? what should i check for?

I have a 89 CRX with a B16A and I can tell you that when I run 14 second cars they put about 2 cars on me, sometimes 3. I have determined that my VTEC isnt functioning. You may want to check out your wiring.

hmmmm...tunning is definetly a big key i would take it and get it proberly tuned and check and see if you timing is advanced by seeing if the distributer is all the way forward..

Re: (Jspec_crx)
The importance af regular maintainence seems to be rearing it's ugly head. I have a d16a6 and it is quick for no internal mods, But if you adjust your valves, Put in good spark plugs (Platinum is a poor conducter for high energy), Replace your distributer cap and rotor, New spark plug wires and ignition coil along with all the other required stuff especially after a major heart transplant, It will probably make a difference. If you want to race you "NEED" to remove (At least for the race) all of your subwoofers, This is like having the weight of an extra person in the back. You may want to invest in a header and a high flow cat, 4/1 for drag racing (Lower end power) or 4/2/1 for track racing (Better mid-range power). I agree with all of the above about getting your car dyno tuned. Hope this helps!

Also, I dunno if you're running A/C or not, but if so, you should take the belt off before you go race and just run your alternator belt.
Maybe i'm lucky but my '90 with a bone stock 1st Gen is in the low 14's.

Re: What can I do to make my B16 CRX faster? (REX VT)
Suspension is also something i would reccomend. Good rear shocks and some drag springs will help you off the line so you wont have to play catch up. I have a b16 in my rex and i spin and bounce a lot. Thats one of the first things i am going to do

hey after you figure out that vtec and all your other engine related system, are in proper operating order switch to a jdm s1 tranny. this tranny will make your car accelerated quicker, than the y1 you have! also tell your friend with the carrera, that i'll give him a run for his money with my crx! let me know!

Re: What can I do to make my B16 CRX faster? (smokey2.0)
well, i just changed the clutch on friday, when i did my swap i rebuilt my whole distributor, and changed all my wires, I have bosch platinum 2 spark plugs in the car, i don't have a/c and i am pretty sure my vtec works, so is there anything else i should check for?
EDIT: i forgot to add that I am running the stock headers with no cat, and i have both o2 sensors hooked up, i removed the subs when i did my swap, and the wheels i have are 17" with fairly sticky tires on them, so traction isn't a big issue
