Icon3 Well here goes another CRX thread

ok so lets start this off from the beginning i had a cd5 accord, it was a pretty cool car. automatic 4dr etc. you guys have seen accord before.

well i was browsing craigslist and found a crx that looked ok
the guy wanted a trade because he needed a bigger car so i was up for it.

so that night we traded pinkslips
shes a 90 CR-X Dx
clean title but was in a previous front end accident
and i took her to the wash

then about 2 days later lowered her and threw some extra rims i had laying around on her (i dont really like the rims)

my friend could resist having me take a picture of his hand lol

then i started geetting ready for the 5spd Si tranny swap ;D <3

and while i was down there i pulled this random relay out and a security throttle lock thing out also

then since the dx comes with no rear speakers
i put some rear speaker brackets in and threw some speakers in

i couldnt believe it went all those year with no one putting speakers back there

also threw some off brand headers on there

never use duplicolor paint on headers maybe i did it wrong but they were grey for about half a day then they turned pink and chalky

old manifold

then the actual moment of dropping the auto tranny

i forgot to take pics of the 5 spd
but its gonna have to come out again do to the fact i has a bad internal bearing.
but for no thats how she sits until i can afford more mods or a swap ;D
planning on doing mpfi soon

oh and i also made the worst mistake ever. i bought a no name exhaust on craigslist for $20 and i was to excited for a deeper tone so i got it welded on and now that reality set in it look horrible and is just a no

its kinda been a while since ive had a chance to work on her and check in,
i kinda got caught up buy another car ;P 71 vw bug
So i havent done many things to her,
i did install a viper alarm with electric door unlock so i can finally open my door without the keys <3

other than that everythings been good, those old speaker got replaced i put "marine" speakers all the way around, installed some tweeters

ordered a gauge pod i plan on ordering an AEM wideband later, voltmeter, and im not sure what to get for the third... any input?

also ordered my NRG Shorthub because my steering wheel is put on with an cheapy ebay hub so my horn wont work, i plan on doing the paperclip mod ;P

plan on ordering a quick release and lock also .
so those are the upcoming goals

Theres also some bug i need to fix here and there before mods start tho.
she needs a valve cover gasket and lower seals and possibly a wire set, nothing to big tho just maintenance.

but once in a blue moon i do get a jumpy tach or dead tach, and dead radio when i step on the brakes, i read its a bum alternator. so thats gotta get done.
i guess stock alternators are 60 amps? would it be better if i ran a higher amperage one? i saw a couple on ebay,130a,160a or 170a.
what do you guys think?
any good would it be better for me? i plan on doing subs later btw

so if you guys have any helpful info or tips let me know

Well it turns out the reason my parking brake was grabing to well was because my rear drivers side wheel cylinder was leaking quite a bit and it was wetting the shoes. So today after work i took the cylinder off cleaned it out replaced the seals in it and dust covers and good as new, blead all the brakes and now the pedal feels great

check your taillight sockets for corrosion. spent many hrs screwing with this problem, 2 alternators, 1 battery, then I finally got the meter out and 2 hrs later found the problem. I cleaned them with CRC brand contact cleaner, scotchbrite and a pipe cleaning brush. now just check them when oil changed. good luck.

A 71 VW you say. I have a 74. So much easier to work on than the honda. Maybe that's because of the engine placement.

I like the CRX. It's not the family car that an Accord is, so that's always a good thing.

The rex is back in the shop.
I hit a nice bump on the freeway and from then on got a loud clunking noise in my steering and play in the steering wheel
I assumed it was inner tie rod ends so I bought inner tie rod ends outer tie rod ends and the boots I did the drivers side.
It had no play but I did it anyway the got to the passengers side and was about to pull the inner tie rod end off but then I noticed the actual rack had play internally so I had to get it rebuilt so thats that and whie I was at it I figured I might as well change the rack and pinion bushings can be replaced so I got red energy ones.

So that took care of my steering problem but I also had the infamous axel click on turns so I got new left and right side axels.

I was going to do my transmission axel seal since the have been leaking but I figued EF it ill pull the tranny back out because it was used and the main bearing had a whining noise and 2nd grind and once it was out I learned a bad throw out bearing.
One good thing was I was able to confirm I have and SI tranny its an 89.

I also decided to order the red energy shifter bushings so hopefully that will tighten up the shifter some,
And if not I also order the 4 shifter O-rings and the rear joint bushing, and a new spring pin from the dealer

So once everything gets here I should have a rebuilt tranny, new axels, new clutch and pressure plate,a tightened shifter, a rebuilt steering rack, tighter steering.

Hopefuly it will drive well for a bit because I want to do the rear disk swap

Ima get some pics later of the work and parts

Starting the dpfi to mpfi sway D:
Should be fun got the ecu side of the harness done just need to add a pin.
And ran the wires in the bay, gonna do the dizzy plugs tmmmrw and get the manifold on the block so I can see how long I need the wires and to extend the map sensor wiring since its an obd1 style manifold and tb
