Default Type R or EF??

As of now i own a Type R but i am picking up a ef with a blown motor in a couple of days; real cheap. Anyway, I have been thinking of sellin the R and building the ef. Good points=no car payment, probably can build to be faster, less attention from cops since R is PY. Bad points=not a Type R, worried about handling cause the R handling is awsome, and more trouble building. So my question is would u guys sell ur ef to get a R if u could and can u make these cars handle as well/better than the R. Thanx in advance for the info. Please be honest. My decision could rest in ur hands.

I believe that with a little more tuning, my CRX - "ef" - will be comparible to an ITR in every manner except for interior comfort/appearance. The motor is making hp figures that are right on par with ITR #s (using ITR parts) and the suspension is close to feeling like a lightly modified ITR suspension (need to finish the ES master kit). I would say go for it!

I would sell my EF in a heartbeat to get an ITR!! But the EF is a great car, handles well, light weight, etc. You could make it to match or surpass the handling of a TR. Such great toys! But if I had an ITR, I wouldn't sell it for an EF. Keep the ITR dude.

Well thanks for the info. I think i might just get the ef and throw in a stock engine and use it as my beater. I just dont know if i could sell the R. It just sux cause i have alot of mile for a 2001 and i get so much attention from cops. If i had a good beater it would probably stay out of more trouble. Opinions are still welcome everyone chime in and give me some ideas.

The ITR is too pretty, I'd be so worried about one. The good points about the EF is you're not really going to find a lighter platform that runs all the same engines. They both get stolen a lot so your not going to be that much safer with the EF. I think if you are able to keep up with the payments I'd just keep the R. Most people with EFs are building them up for a long time to make them comparable to Rs, you already have one.

No not determind just seeing what my options are. The money for the car payment could be used for any number of things. The ITR is by far the best car i have ever had its just i am getting older now and have been thinking of moving out of grandparents house. I wouldnt even consider selling it untill after the summer. I am saving up money to dump into the ITR and enjoying my summer. After the summer is over than we will see. I am still buying the ef but it may sit till the end of the summer till i fiqure out what i am going to do.

Also i couldnt swap out the engine for a b18c cause that is just plain wrong. I bet u would be pretty pissed if u found out u just bought a ITGSR.

it hard to pick... I had a 96 gsr and sometimes i regret goin from that to an ef(90 hf). But yeh no payments are great : ). and you can make the car much faster actaully way faster than a R. my grl has an R andyes its more comfy and handles great... but my **** it think handles as good. but is only harder to steer and make the wheel feel heavier cause of not having power steering but i dont give a ****... i would do it though if i had to do it again.. What you could do is have your R stolen and keep everything and convert it all onto the CRX or Hf.. CRX is cooler by the way. haha... anyway do it man you will love the power much much more.

I have a clean 98 civic and a clean EF with B16a. I use to be really into the EF but started getting sick of all the squeaks and rattles that the EF is notorious for. So now i choose to drive the 98 civic more often because it's more comfortable and not irritating like the EF. I would personally keep the Type R and not dump a lot of money into an EF. As of now i'm trying to get rid of my EF.

keep the ITR and make the EF the beater, for now. once you get tired of the ITR, build up the EF and get another EF to take the place of the beater.

if you don't want a car payment and a good car to use as a track toy then build the EF. they're cheap and easy to find if something were to happen to it and an ITR is not. an EF does not have the potential that an ITR has but will cost you more to build.

so if your just looking for a little toy on the track i would keep the r for that. that's what i did and use the EF fro my daily driver

less attention from cops since R is PY.
OK I wouldnt go and say less attention from cops with an EF maybe less from a Hatch but definately not with a CRX. I have owned CRX's for quite awhile and let me tell you that I get plenty of attention from cops in fact I havent gotten more attention with it over other cars that I have owned which a couple of those include a crappy 92 Z24 which is red, a 97 Camaro Z28 (black), and also a 77 Corvette(silver). With the exception of the Vette the CRX has also been the one with the highest insurance quotes over any other car that I have owned none the less I had quite a few more tickets though when it came down to me getting the CRX (well the 91 atleast) but then again I am not sure how much insurance would be for a type R though. I must say though with you saying no car payment man is it sweet not having one. I have been debating and debating on getting another car well atleast a newer car but I still go back to me not having a car payment. It all comes down to what you want to do and how old of a car that you want. Me personally if I had the R and could pick up an EF with a blown motor I would probably keep the R and pick up the EF anddo mods to it as money would allow.....Just my $.02

Heh.. I thought about this a while back too.

I've got a 98 ITR that's been pulling double duty for hot lapping / driving school days, and for daily driver to work. The more racey it gets, the more it hurts, and the more I can't stand it on long drives. I grabbed a sweet 91 crx.. and decided to go fully built b16a turbo.. now I just need to find the time to put in the completed motor, suspension and other pieces.... sell my ITR .. and buy a winter beater

IMO
i would sell the ITR
its hurts a lot and its a sweet car.. but u have gotten the fun out of it i bet
u can easyly sell that puppy for like 14K... plenty of money to buy a EF, build it to the teeth... with 14 grand u can make ur car, make it handle way beyond the ITR, perform way faster ,and look good, and still have a **** load money left..
also no car payments are very good
having a low payment car for insurance its sweet
also the car its lighter
IMO get the ef if u wanna get out of ur GP house and progress... the car will be cheaper!
