Default Swapping speedometer/odometer into another cluster?

Hey guys, new to the forums. Just picked up a clean, bone stock '88 dx a few months ago and im loving this car! Coming from a Subaru, it feels much more light and nimble. Anyway..

I don't like the fact that the car doesn't have a tachometer, so I purchased an 88-89 gauge cluster with a tach on eBay. The new cluster has 253k the odo, and my car currently has 153k on it. At first I was thinking about just installing it with the 100k miles extra on the odometer, but I was curious if there is a way to pull the speedometer/odometer combo out of my current gauge cluster and swap it into my new cluster with the tach so I can retain my original mileage. I did some searching, and found plenty of info on the actual swapping of clusters, but couldnt find info on swapping individual gauges between clusters. Id rather not roll back mileage because it looks pretty complicated. If you have any helpful input or advice, let me know! thanks.

It can be done because I did it. I had to make the odometer reset hole a tad bigger so that the reset rod could go through. Pretty easy if you go slow and careful.

Cool! I assume you took apart the whole cluster?

It's honestly easier to adjust the mileage on the cluster to match the cars mileage. Really easy to do then all you have to do is swap the whole cluster.

It still requires the cluster to be taken apart though right? I always thought adjusting the odometer was near impossible.
