Strange interior noise...
The noise is in the interior somewhere on the driver side. It sounds like a playing card in the spoke of a bicycle wheel. At 70 mph it is relatively fast. If I slow down, it slows as well and will stop altogether at 40. Once I speed back up, it may or may not do it again, it is random. It only does this when the outside temperature is below 40 degrees. If I drive the car easy and shift at 2K with every gear it usually won't do it. If I do my usual 3K, it will, but only sometimes. Some other times I have to hit a bump on the freeway for it to start, and if I don't hit that bump, then it most likely will not. There are no definitive ways to cause the sound. I have tried to take it to the dealer, but the noise will never make its presence when there are technicians around. I replaced the plastic sheet on the back of the gauge cluster, re-wrapped the wires under the dash with new electrical tape, and re-wrapped the wires for the dash clock inside the air vent. The noise will still occur on cooler mornings. It will never do it if it is warm outside. There are no moving parts to cause this noise on the driver side of the interior. What the heck is it!? It did not do this over the last two winters. If this matters: I had my transmission replaced with an Si 5-speed, and this noise started randomly after that. Never had a problem before. Please help! I am going to pull my hair out if it continues. Thanks.

Re: Strange interior noise... (mahatma)
The cable is secured to the rear of the cluster as it should. I have disconnected it from the cluster, and the sound still appeared. What else could it be?

Do you have a system in your hatch????? iF you do it may be the whin from the alternator i HAD a system in my hatch and it would speed up with acceleration and slow down with deacceleration. Let me no if this helps.

Try it with your radio turned off if it still persists then your alternator is fine. However, it could be vibrations caused by your exhaust that is if you have an aftermarket one. If this is the case your exhaust has probably rattled something loose. I've had this happen to me once but never in my civic it happened in my Subaru Impreza and it was actually where the seatbolt hooks in by the seat (not sure what the terminology of that is.....lol). Hopefully this helps. It might also be something in your door take the interior door panel off and check in there for loose parts or any signs of rubbing.
